Position Title: Database Administrator (DBA) Universal Strategy Group Inc. (USGI) is seeking a highly experienced, motivated, and dynamic individual to fill the position of a Database Administrator. This position is at Fort Bragg, NC and is a full time position. Responsibilities:
The DBA will provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) and over installation, operations, administration and maintenance support of Microsoft Sequel Server (SQL) databases that are critical components of a USSOCOM system and network environment. This support includes analysis, troubleshooting, and database performance tuning to ensure network database systems operate efficiently; guarantee data availability and assurance; and maximizes database uptime.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
* Perform design, analysis, development, implementation and Database management of various databases, and associated systems engineering processes, across the entire client's Geospatial enterprise, holdings, and higher headquarters global infrastructure.
* Performs system hardware and software installation, validation and configuration management and disposition of servers and workstations to support System architecture and the organizational National imagery holdings, Geo-catalogs and other Geospatial related data and holdings. This includes planning, directing, and implementing hardware and software installations, upgrades, patches, backups and recovery.
* Perform analysis and utilize gathered data in order to optimize the system. Develop solutions and recommendations in three key areas: optimize capacity, latency, and throughput.
* Implement data models and designs for data access and resolve any linked server issues to include replication, capacity, or distribution.
* Functional analysis to include the analysis of current and future operations, workload flows and volumes, user/system interactions, training, information needs, performance support system requirements, and other resource requirements.
* Impact analysis include estimation of time and resource requirements for development, operation, training, and ongoing performance support, transition planning, benefit analysis, risk analysis, and migration analysis.
* Architectural analyses include development of operational, system, and technical architectures; development of hardware architectures and configurations, operational scenarios, and component specifications; identification of software functionality and complexity, assessment of system transactions and response measurement, and sizing of hardware, software, and databases. Architecture analysis also includes data and databases, global access to decision support information, distributed system interfaces and system interoperability.
* Assist in the production of policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of database. Evaluate, analyze and audit production systems processes and equipment, and help develop and implement solutions to aid with the continuity of operations.
* Create and maintain documentation as it relates to server management. Produce configuration documents and engineering change proposals for review and approval by the organizational Configuration Control Board (CCB)
* Engineering and system upgrade/roll-out, development of detailed change request packages/implementation and test plans.
* Participate in new projects/efforts throughout the program life cycle to include server systems design, development and provisioning activities in support of system architecture and infrastructure. Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies.
* Responsible for the maintenance and support of hardware and system software components.
* Monitors system performance to support capacity planning, backup and disaster recovery planning. Assist in the development and management of an Enterprise level backup and recovery process for all data stored.
* Provide assessment of opportunities for interoperability and horizontal integration
The following are the required credentials and qualifications for Database Administrator:
* A complete knowledge and experience of commonly used database management systems (DBMS) technology, concepts, design, architecture, development methods, practices, procedures, operations and processes necessary to plan, design, build, document and maintain enterprise database applications and services oriented architectures (SOA).
* Knowledge and skills required to design, optimize, and maintain database administration solutions for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 to include SQL Reporting Service, spatial geometry types, SQL Server Integration Service and experience with standing up, operating and maintaining SQL Server clusters, database performance tuning, database monitoring, and database backup/recovery.
* Experience with virtualizing SQL databases, configuring databases, and ensuring data availability between SANs and storage locations.
* Experience in query optimization and performance tuning, running database consistency checks and troubleshooting.
* Extensive Networking Background in managing and supporting an Enterprise Network Infrastructure
* Extensive Knowledge in maintaining and supporting Dell Server(s) and Laptops
* Experience with latest Windows operating systems and configuring servers for database operations.
* Experience in GIS Systems: ESRI GIS Server backend and clients software
* Experience in Linux Operating Systems - supporting and maintaining Linux backend systems
* Working knowledge of and experience with databases that support geospatial intelligence data management, and full motion Multicasting Video Technologies (MPEG Transmission) from a variety of sources in a variety of formats.
* A minimum of 7 years' experience in production System Administration and Data Base Administration role(s), or increasing scope and responsibility. Leading/participating in requirements design, diagramming, documentation of technical specifications and performance standards, preparation of testing plans and procedures, development and execution of configuration management, quality assurance and quality control policy and procedures.
* Experience in a Special Operations Forces (SOF) and Special Mission Unit (SMU) environment with supporting Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) efforts is preferred.
* At a minimum, have formalized information technology training/certification equal to or exceeding a Microsoft Certified System Engineer -Professional Data Platform or a Microsoft Certified System Engineer -Business Intelligence or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, for the level of responsibilities required to be performed under this contract from a commercially recognized source. Must be able to write / technical documentation as directed.
* A Bachelor of Science degree or certification in Information Technology Management is preferred, but, not mandatory.
