January 2010 ---that seems almost unbelievable to me. A decade since we had the “Y2K” scare! I don’t guess I was too scared since I think I slept through that! J Think about all that has happened since then concerning electronics…
phones that do everything, You-tube, Facebook, Twitter, Google searches, etc. Life seems so “instant”. But now and then, we should all slow down a bit and smell the roses…here’s to you having a garden party! Tommi
Finally! 25 Oklahoma Technology Centers are now receiving
electronic transcripts on OKCollegestart.org! Please keep them in mind
this spring when you are sending out e-transcripts. It will be so easy to send
them a copy for those students who are planning on attending CareerTech
in the fall, both current students and newly enrolling CareerTech students. Thanks.
Very Important Information: During the last Legislative session, Senate Bill 497 was passed concerning placing business and industry-recognized endorsements earned by students at the technology centers on transcripts. If you have any questions, please call me at 405-743-5524. Here is more information concerning this matter:
Senate Bill 497 – “Beginning with students who enter the 9th grade in 2008-2009 school year, school districts shall report the student’s performance levels of satisfactory and above on end of instruction tests and any business and industry-recognized endorsements attained on the high school transcript.”
The business and industry-recognized endorsements located at the following link were evaluated and recognized by the Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) to be rigorous, standardized, independently graded, knowledge-based, and administered on a multi-state or international level. These endorsements have also been approved by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education to be added to high school transcripts for those students earning the endorsement. The school district will receive notification from the local technology center when a student has earned a business and industry-recognized endorsement on this list. The school district will then add the endorsement to the student’s high school transcript. Click on the following link to find this list.

- All it takes is a 15!! PLAN Test: 15 – a very important number
When a student scores at least a 15 on the PLAN test he/she has a couple of options open to them. Here they are:
---- A 15 on the PLAN Math subtest = proficient alternate test score for ACE Algebra I
---- A 15 on the PLAN composite scores = one of the ways a student is eligible to earn college credit through the cooperative alliances at a technology center (The other 2 ways are a 2.5 GPA or a 19 on an ACT.) Ask your local technology center what courses qualify for college credit!

The ABC's of Career Awareness and Exploration Awards Recognition Program was developed by the National Consortium for State Guidance Leadership (NCSGL) to recognize Exemplary Career Awareness and Exploration Programs for students at the elementary and middle grade levels.
The ABC Program helps to identify, promote, and share the content and concepts of successful career awareness and exploration programs throughout the country. This recognition and award program generates interest, support, understanding and commitment for career guidance at the elementary and middle school levels, as well as recognizing schools that promote the ideal that career awareness and exploration is essential for students as they plan for their future.
