Hello,

As a member of the Cineclub network, your Year 6 students are invited to take part in Screen Champions, an exciting competition to get young filmmakers thinking about what goes on behind the scenes of their favourite films. There is a chance to win a brand new camera kit for your school and you will also receive a support session from a professional filmmaker to help with the production aspect of the competition.

Screen Champions is a special competition run in partnership with our friends at the Industry Trust for Intellectual Property Awareness, an organisation which aims to inspire and educate young people about the hard work that goes into making films and develop their respect for creativity and copyright.

What is it?

We are looking for 10 schools in Bradford/North of England to create a short film (30 seconds to 60 seconds in length) based upon the theme of respect for creativity and intellectual property awareness.

How do we do it?

Your school will be given resources and information about how to approach the subject with your young people.
Teachers will be invited to a special Twilight INSET in April where they can learn more, ask questions and see films from young people on this topic.
Your school will be visited by one of Cineclub’s professional filmmakers to help you with your film. You can choose when you have this visit and our filmmakers can help you devise, shoot or edit your film.

Why should we get involved?

·  There is a prize! The winner will get their hands on a brand new camera kit for their school.

·  A Cineclub filmmaker will come out to your school to help your students make their film and you can also use this opportunity to quiz them about working in the industry.

·  In the summer participants will be invited to an event where they can share their work and views from Screen Champions with other 10 – 16 year olds. Afterwards, all members will be invited to a screening of a fantastic film.

Each participating school will be given resources to guide Cineclubber’s through the modern British Film Industry, talking about the blood, sweat and tears involved in making the films they love. Through structured debate (guided by your pack) and practical filmmaking activities, you can help them to learn about creativity, copyright and the role they play in keeping the industry they love alive.

You do not have to run this activity with your Cineclub groups, you may choose to incorporate it into curriculum time or work with your media groups on this. Students must be year 6 – year 11.
