50km Tara Loop: General Safety Guidelines

• The rules of the road apply at all times.

• All participants must obey the instructions of Gardai/Civil

Defence/Marshals.

• Please note marshals have no authority to stop traffic.

• Helmets are compulsory for all cyclists – NO HELMET NO RIDE

• This event takes place on open roads.

• Cyclists must give way to other road users where applicable.

• All bicycles should be well maintained and in a road worthy condition.

Participants are advised to carry a pump, spare tubes etc.

Areas where cyclists need to take additional care:

§  When leaving the start at Trim Castle cycling out the Dublin Rd. please be aware of other

§  road users and fellow cyclists, stay in the left lane at all times.

§  When entering Kilmessan (11.7km) cyclists must stop at t-junction to then take right turn

§  and must take care passing through the village. Beware of traffic, parked cars and

§  pedestrians.

§  When approaching Crockett’s Pub in Bective (15.7km) cyclists must slow down to take

§  right turn.

§  Ballinter Cross (20.2km) cyclists must be aware of oncoming traffic when taking the right

§  turn (link road to N3). This is a major road crossing.

§  At 21.8km cyclists take a right turn for the steep uphill climb to Tara. Cyclists beware of

§  the narrow road and very steep incline.

§  Food Stop on the Hill of Tara (23.3km), beware of traffic and other cyclists.

§  When approaching t-junction signposted Dunsany 2km (28.9km) cyclists must stop to turn

§  right heading towards Dunsany.

§  At 30.3km cyclists must slow down on approach to a t-junction right turn then an

§  immediate left turn.

§  Approaching main Trim/Dublin road at Dunsany Lodge (35.1km) cyclists must slow

§  down and take care taking a right turn onto the road heading towards Trim.

§  On entering Kiltale GAA (35.6km) for the water stop cyclists must slow down and beware

§  of other cyclists. When leaving the water stop take care rejoining the main road.

§  When approaching Laracor Crossroads (47.4km) cyclists slow down and stop at junction.

§  Cyclists must take care taking a right turn towards Trim.

§  At the Summerhill/Longwood roundabout (48.5km) cyclists need to slow down to take the

§  3rd exit.

§  When entering Trim (50km) beware of traffic, parked cars and pedestrians.
