Required Materials: Pencil, pen, composition book, scientific calculator (a graphing calculator is not necessary but a basic scientific calculator with log and exponent functions will suffice)
Assessment Grades: minimum of 3 per nine week grading period
Unit Tests: Following each unit, a summative assessment will be given. This
assessment will include multiple choice questions, problems, essay, and
lab based questions.
Nine Week Test: A cumulative nine week exam will be given at the end of the nine week grading period. This exam will be cumulative for that nine weeks.
Formal Labs: Formal labs will be assigned on a regular basis. Each lab will be typed and turned in with your lab groups by the due date.
Daily Grades: minimum of 12 per nine week grading period
Classwork: Daily grades will be given on a regular basis. Minor lab work and group work are examples of classroom daily grades.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given from time to time and will vary in design. Quizzes will count as 1.5 daily grades.
Homework: Homework will be given occasionally and is expected to be done. With chemistry being heavily math based it is important to practice those math skills regularly. When I assign homework it is because I feel the students need extra practice. Any work that is turned in late will have a grade deduction of 11% of the earned grade. After the papers are graded and passed back the student will still have a chance to make-up the zero but only in tutorials. All homework for a unit must be turned in by the day of the unit assessment.
Make-Up Work: When class is missed, see me before or after school to schedule time for make-up work. Being absent the day before the test does not excuse you from taking the test. If you are absent due to extra-curricular activities, it is your responsibility to find out what we are doing in class before the absence.
Tutorials: Tutorials will occur during the first half of the power hour. I will be in my room available for students on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
Textbook There is not an assigned textbook for this class. We have one but only use it as a supplement and not on a regular basis.
Conduct: You are expected to follow all school regulations. You will be courteous and do your own work to the best of your ability. You are expected to come tutorials when help is needed. If student behavior becomes an issue, parents will be contacted and a behavior plan will be developed.
