Rocky Mountain Chapter News

COUNCIL OF EDUCATIONAL FACILITY PLANNERS, INTERNATIONAL

Note from the President

It’s hard to believe that the spring and summer have gone so quickly, but now the time to head back to school is just around the corner. As CEFPI members, we often feel like proud parents when we finish the punch list for a project. It’s like finishing up the back to school shopping! Our designs, whether renovations or new buildings, aren’t really a school until the students move in. Sure, the beginning of the project is exciting, but not like the end. It’s not until you see smiling faces checking out what’s new and hear feet running down the halls that you know that the project was a success. Summer schedules can be challenging and often fast-paced, but knowing that new generations of learners are going to be immediately impacted should be an inspiration to us all!

Like proud parents, we should embrace this opportunity to show off our project to our friends and colleagues in the Chapter. What a great way to see the best of the best in the area and see new trends and ideas being implemented right here in the Rocky Mountain Region! It is the collaboration and idea-sharing that makes this chapter so great, and now is the time to offer tours, give presentations and be proud of your newest project.

I hope that many of you are considering a trip to the 2010 CEFPI Annual World Conference & Expo this September in San Jose. This conference will provide many educational opportunities and will help members explore ways to re-think and re-shape learning environments and to be able to create world-class educational spaces for our clients…the students. The conference features timely seminars on topics that are important to all of us and can help us transform the educational environments that we design and work in.

Again, just like the start of the school year is a time of change and looking forward to the next year this is also a time of transition for our chapter. While the term as CEFPI President is very rewarding, it can also be challenging. I entered this role with great respect for my predecessor and hope that I have been able to continue the momentum and provide valuable leadership to the Board, and Members. It will soon be time to hand the reins to Kaki Zeeb and wish her luck in the role as President for the next year. We should all support Kaki in any way we can, because her success is our success.

Thank you all for the opportunity to have been able to serve as your President for the last year and most of all, for your friendship and support. I respect the unique perspective and skills you each bring to the Chapter and have enjoyed being able to work with every one of you to make this Chapter so successful!

Check out the CEFPI website listed above to see the winners and creative spirit of our middle school students.

Colorado/Wyoming has not participated in this program in the past, but we do have interest in some school districts and just need some volunteers. This is an amazing program, and Colorado should be represented as this is becoming more and more about the environment, and we are a leader in the movement. Please respond to this email if you are interested in this program for 2011.
