Lee’s Summit North Marching Festival
Oct. 7, 2017
The Pride Band’s first performance of the 2017 competitive season is Saturday Oct. 7 at Lee’s Summit North High School. Because this is the band’s first performance of the season, I have tried to outline as much as possible for you. First performance days always have unexpected things happen, but if we are organized and help each other out, the day will run smoothly. Additionally, it is always a good idea to know what is expected of you, so read this carefully!
Please keep in mind that all percussion, the sound system, all large equipment, uniforms, and color guard equipment all travel on the semi. Small instruments travel on the bus with you. We have four buses and there is a bus list for each. Buses are assigned by alphabetical order. Please don’t ask to move.
When you arrive at PCHS, please get your equipment and uniform and load it. YOU are responsible for loading your equipment. Please make sure you have everything you need. This would include marching shoes and long black socks and black gloves. Double check to make sure you have everything. Older members of the band, please check with the younger members to ensure they have everything. We wear the show t-shirt under our uniform. Because you are changing on the bus, you must wear the t-shirt and athletic shorts under the uniform.
Please remember to polish your instrument!!!
As a reminder, the buses are our homes, so keep them clean. Do not sit on the backs of the seats, keep the bus clean and do as the driver asks. When we return home, the buses will be inspected. Any bus not clean, will be assigned bus cleaning duty on the next trip. This is something you DO NOT want to do, so clean up after yourselves.
We have a TON of props and equipment this year. Please help out as much as you can. Do not sit around and expect the parents to work for you. It is YOUR show. The parents do an amazing job, but they are here to help you, not do the work for you. Additionally, when we eat, throw your trash away. We always leave our area cleaner than we find it. Even if it is not your trash, pick it up and throw it away. Again, the parents are not to pick up after you. That is your job. Do not throw water bottles or do anything I will consider immature. If you aren’t sure if I would consider it immature, it probably is!!

We will be facing some good bands. Our class includes:North Kansas City, William Chrisman, Shawnee Mission North,
Lawrence Free State, and Fort Osage. I want you to have the best run you can. In the last few weeks, you have invested a TON of hard work and the show has improved immensely. This is your opportunity to show everyone what you have been working so hard on. Take the field with confidence and pride. I know you can do an awesome job. If you leave the field knowing that you could not have done a better job, then the scores are not important. Your feelings of success are all that matter. The directors are proud of how hard you have been working….let it show.
Some other reminders…..
Uniforms MUST fit properly. Please make sure the pants are the correct length. They should hit at the top of the shoe. This is important. The way you wear the uniform and the way you act in uniform shows your pride in yourself and your school. Again, all silver instruments must be polished and only black marching shoes and LONG BLACK SOCKS are acceptable. It is your responsibility to make sure the uniform looks good on you. Nothing bothers me more than to see students wearing the uniform wrong or acting inappropriately in uniform.
Below you will find a schedule for the entire day. I hope your parents choose to go and support us. It’s great having a large cheering section when we take the field.
Please remember that you represent our school all day long. So, when you are in the stands watching other bands, I expect you to be polite and courteous. Do not talk during other performances. Act the way you want people to act during your performance. Additionally, during the awards, I expect you to act like young men and women. Bring respect to yourself and our school in the way you act. No one likes an obnoxious or rude person, so don’t be one!! If you do, I WILL hear about it…..and so will you!
After we perform, EVERYONE should help load equipment. We will eat dinner after our performance and then report to the stadium to watch the remaining bands and attends the awards ceremony.
When we arrive home, clean the bus, EVERYONE helps unload equipment. Uniforms are unloaded and returned to room 44. The band room is cleaned and we go home. STUDENTS, PLEASE CALL YOUR PARENTS WHEN WE LEAVE LEE’S SUMMIT, SO THEY KNOW WHAT TIME TO PICK YOU UP. THE STAFF DOES NOT WANT TO WAIT AN HOUR ONCE WE GET HOME FOR ALL STUDENTS TO BE PICKED UP. THANK YOU!
Good luck!!!
