Care of Manikins
Do not leave lubricant or tape/adhesives on the manikin overnight.
Wear gloves whenever possible when handling the manikins.
Drain and air dry genitalia reservoirs and injection pads after each use. To prevent mold on injection pads, the foam filling can be soaked in a mild solution of bleach and water. Squeeze the solution out and allow the filling to air dry prior to reinsertion and storage.
For manikins with an air compressor, be sure that compressed air is not left in the manikin. Always turn off the compressor and “bleed” out the air by opening the valve.
Clean manikins weekly with mild detergent and warm water. Do not clean with harsh abrasives. Do not submerge manikins in water. Dry thoroughly.
Apply talcum powder to articulating parts or when changing out manikin parts (ie. abdominal plate, wound parts, etc.)
Do not use povidone iodine on manikins.
Be sure all products/moulage used on the manikins is color safe. You may be able to protect the manikin by applying a thin coat of Noxema prior to moulage. You can also protect external moulage by placing saran wrap over the moulage.
Do not use inkpens, markers, or newsprint near the manikins.
Inspect manikin regularly for problems with cables or tubing.
Ink stains – apply over-the-counter acne medicine that contains benzoyl peroxide on the stain, leave on overnight
Sticky spots – apply baby powder with cornstarch, this should make the residue ball up, rub the rest off with alcohol; can also use GooGone or GoofOff
Eyelids won’t stay open – use clamp at base of neck to tighten the facial skin, if that is not effective can trim the eyelids back with scissors
Replacing arm skins – cut a slit on the backside of the arm to ease in removal (save this arm to moulage in different ways, can add Velcro strip to secure over existing arm), remove old vein system, replace new vein system and secure with tiny dots of super glue every 3-5 inches, warm the new arm skin with a blow dryer to make the skin more pliable, using 2 people (if possible) lube the arm liberally with dish soap, then pull new arm skin up making sure fingers are aligned, no need to remove the dish soap
