IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

Church-wide

New Sunday School Classes: All members that signed up for the first eight-week sessions for theOvercomers Class and the Marriage Enrichment Class will meet this morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center, Rooms 1 and 2 on the first floor.

Business Owners Meeting: The Union Chapel Business Owners Meeting will be held on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Christian Women’s Job Corp (CWJC): The Christian Women’s Job Corp (CWJC) is a non-profit, faith based agency where women in need are equipped for life and employment. Women chosen to participate in the CWJC program attend an intensive 10-12 week life and work skills course that includes Bible study and instruction in computer operation. The classes are free of charge and are designed to give CWJC students a firm foundation on which to build a successful life and career. Every student is assigned a mentor. The mentor commits to a one-year, one-on-one relationship to help build the student’s self-esteem, self-confidence and skills essential to success in life and at work. On Monday, April 14, 2008, Mrs. Elaine Dickson, the Executive Director of the CWJC of Madison County, Alabama, Inc., will visit our church to provide a program update to the Missionary Ministry. Her presentation is scheduled in the Fellowship Hall from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Women of the church who would like to know more about mentoring and volunteer opportunities in CWJC as well as anyone who might desire to attend the course or recommend others for attendance are invited to come and learn more about the program. Youth Night of Praise: The Revised Version Choir will be participating in the Union Chapel Youth Night of Praise at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008. All choir members are asked to meet at the FamilyLifeCenter at 5:30 p.m. The attire is blue jeans and solid color or Christian theme T-shirts.

Deacons Training: The Deacons will be conducting its quarterlytraining session on Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The training session will be held in the Church Library. All Deacons are requested and encouraged to attend.

Revised Version Choir: The Revised Version Choir will be ministering in song on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Bartley Primitive Baptist Church located at 3020 Belafonte Avenue. The attire will be white tops and khaki bottoms. Church transportation will be provided. Please sign the sign-up sheet at the WelcomeCenterif you plan to attend and need transportation. We are looking forward to 100% participation. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

The Senior Adult Ministry (S.A.M.): The Senior Adult Ministry (S.A.M.) is planning a trip to the Alabama Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday, April 22, 2008.The cost of admissions is $10.00 for seniors under age 65 and $5.00 for seniors 65 or over.The trip does not include lunch fare.We will be dining at Niki’s West in Birmingham, Alabama.The deadline for signing up for the trip is Wednesday, April 16, 2008. All interested seniors are asked to sign up at the WelcomeCenter.Please contact Sis. Jessie Wade or Sis. Pearl Gosa for additional information.

Leadership Training: The Pastor will do Leadership Training on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at 5:30 p.m.

Marriage Enrichment Workshop: The Marriage Enrichment Workshop (SessionsThree and Four) will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, 2008. The Friday nightsession (May 2nd) will commence at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. The Saturday morning session (May 3rd) will commence at 8:30 a.m. andconclude at 11:00 a.m. Pastor and Sis. Davis will be the workshopleaders. The topics to be discussed are: “It Takes Three to Become One,” "We Ain't Heavy," and "Cramming for Marriage.” All interested marriedcouples and singles aspiring to be married are asked to sign up at theWelcomeCenter or in the Church Office.

Unity Service: The Emphasis on Youth and Children (Parenting) Unity Service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served before service at 5:45 p.m. Minister Anthony Plenty will deliver the message. The Revised Version Choir will furnish the song service. If you plan to attend the dinner, please sign up on the sign-up sheet located at the WelcomeCenter. Sign-up is necessary so that we can have an accurate food count.

Additional Unity through Family Worship Services Scheduled: Monthly services will be held at UnionChapelChurchthrough August for Women, Men, Youth and Children (Parenting) and the Whole Family. Dinner will be served before each service at 5:45 p.m. Services will be held onJuly 8th (Tues.) – Men and Male Chorus and August 6th (Wed.) - Whole Family with the Combined Choir.

Graduate Information Survey: All 2008 graduates of Union Chapel M.B. Church, high school seniors, college graduates (all degrees), junior college, BibleCollege,and technical school graduates, should complete a Graduate Information Survey form by Thursday, May 8, 2008, and return it to the WelcomeCenter, offering basket, an usher, or the Church Office. Please contact Bro. Wilbert Brown or any member of the Education Assistance Ministry if you need additional information.

Tithing/Offering Envelopes: Each Sunday, all members are requested to please legibly complete your tithing/offering envelopes with your first and last name, complete address (including city, state and zip code) and the amount of giving. This information is invaluable to us so that your end of the year tax statements will be complete and accurate. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Youth Programs

Mom’s Morning: Mom’s Morning will be postponed until Saturday, April 19, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the FamilyLifeCenter.

Tutorial Program: The Union Chapel Tutorial Program willbegin again on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Union Chapel Tutorial Room. Tutoring services will be offered in all subjects. Students grades K-12 are invited to participate in this program. The Tutorial Program is in need of tutors; if you are interested in being a tutor or participating in the program, please contact Sis. Jenise Showers or the Church Office.

Scholarships

SummerBridge Program: J.F.DrakeStateTechnicalCollege will offer a Speed-Up Summer Bridge Program in the months of June and July. The June Session which is for those high school students who have completed their 11th and 12th grade year will be June 2nd -June 28th . The Adult Component of the Program will be from June 3rd- July 24th. Students will receive a stipend for their participation. Drake Offers Free Summer Tuition Scholarship for 2008 High School Graduates: J. F. Drake State Technical College will be offering a free Summer semester tuition scholarship for 2008 high school graduates. High school graduates from Madison, Jackson, Northern Morgan and bordering Tennessee counties are eligible to apply. The scholarship is only available for the Summer semester immediately following a student’s high school graduation. In order to qualify for the free tuition scholarship, a student must have a 2.5 cumulative high school grade point average and apply for the 2007-08 Pell Grant. The application deadline for the program is May 28. Upon acceptance to Drake, students are responsible for purchasing their books and must enroll in a minimum of three credit hours. Drake’s Summer semester registration is May 27 - 28. The first day of classes for the Summer semester is May 29th.
