Management Authority: Responsible for managing the day to day operations of the release management team
Budgetary Authority:None
Purpose of the Role:
To ensure the successful delivery of releases toall relevant Services, with responsibility for the cross-technology domain, release and environment management process as well as integrated process design, optimisation and policy.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the implementation of releases across the estate to ensure consistency of approach
  • Responsible for all aspects of Release management policies and procedures while carrying out regular process reviews to ensure they are fit for purposes
  • To assist the Change and Release manager with developing and implementing continual service improvement initiatives
  • Manage all aspects of the end to end release process to ensure the alignment of all systems
  • Enforce all aspects of Release Governance, processes and procedures by liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders to ensure that there is an understanding and a consistent approach being adopted across the program and projects
  • Manage the delivery of releases through the full lifecycle to ensure that there are no clashes with resource, environment availability or with other releases by managing the Forward Release Schedule & ensuring its availability to relevant stakeholders
  • Coordinate the build and test environments and release teams to ensure all aspects integrate, when necessary
  • Manage the transition of release(s) from design, through test and live, assessing each release from both a technical and business perspective to enable the appropriate governance to be applied and ensure that only those meeting the agreed criteria progress.
  • Develop and sustain strong working relationships at a senior level both internally and externally to ensure timely delivery of key projects
  • Manage the overall production of reports and statistics for Release Management to ensure all stakeholders are kept properly informed
  • Influence and contribute to the continual evaluation, development and improvement of the release process so as to support and meet user requirements
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders at all levels to ensure their understanding of releases, planning and testing of change requests and planning of various resource pool usage
  • Manage release package design/acceptance, testing, signoff, build and configuration so all aspects of the release environment are properly and effectively co-ordinated
  • Manage the service rollout planning including method of deployment to ensure the optimal and effective use of resources
  • Manage the release, distribution, implementation and the installation of packaged software to meet user requirements
  • Complete tasks associated with the day to day management of the release team. Ensuring that performance is managed appropriately and the relevant data is collected to complete this. Including working with HR to take any steps necessary to ensure compliance with the expected standards
  • Ensure that any associated process documentation is available and maintained to an acceptable standard
  • Undertake any relevant tasks, determined required by the Change and Release Manager

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
  • ITIL qualified
  • Software configuration management knowledge and experience
  • Experience in delivery of COTS products as well as bespoke developments on an enterprise level
  • Knowledge of multiple deployment and testing methodologies
  • Good communication skills (chairing meetings, negotiation, handling difficult situations)
  • Exceptional knowledge of systems development lifecycle
  • Ability to work in shared hybrid release environments; internal and vendor development
  • Proven record in creating, reviewing, documenting & improving processes/work instructions
  • Extensive experience with creating and reviewing release plans, implementation and back out plans
  • Knowledge and experience of following change management processes
  • Good attention to detail, tracking and reporting skills
  • Good understanding of the project mgt lifecycle
  • Strong people skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and experience
  • Previous management experience at team leader level or above
