"Regional Meeting on Finalisation of ASEAN Cosmetics GMP Guidelines” / BACKGROUND
Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) was introduced in Malaysia with the objective to improve product safety, quality and efficacy so that the local products’ quality are recognised around the world. Following the European Union’s practice (EU) on the cosmetics GMP, any products that were tested on animals may not be allowed to be marketed in their countries by year 2008. In this regard, Malaysia’s cosmetic manufacturers should be well prepared to ensure that their products would remain competitive in the global market in future.
This meeting which is hosted and organised by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (BPFK) will be attended by the regulators and industry representatives from ASEAN countries. 13 modules of every aspects of the ASEAN Cosmetics GMP guidelines will be presented at the meeting. Each of these presentations will be opened for deliberation with the view to crystallise a consensus for an ultimate uniform interpretation of the cosmetics guidelines. Malaysia, since is the leading country in the implementation of Cosmetics GMP in ASEAN, the opinion of the current practice in the Malaysian cosmetics industry are vital. Therefore, the three-day meeting would be a great opportunity for the Malaysian cosmetics industry to contribute their views on the issue and to the setting up of the standards for these guidelines, which have significant impact on the cosmetics manufacturing practice in the future.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To update the industry on the outcome of the finalised standard interpretation of the Cosmetics GMP Guidelines
  2. To update the industry on the latest development in product registration and impending notification process of cosmetic products
  3. To review the evaluation on the safety of cosmetics ingredients and the compilation of product information file as well as the mechanism for post-market surveillance on cosmetics products
  4. To provide the cosmetics and toiletries industry with a better understanding on the guidelines in preparing the product information files/ dossier preparation
  5. To provide clarifications on issues pertaining to the records and detail supplementary documents for Product Notification Process.
