JOB TITLE: EEG Technician

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for completing electroencephalograms

and assisting with related patient care.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Obtains patient history, including problems and behaviors. Obtains sedation order from physician when needed.
  1. Explains EEG procedure and preparation to patient and makes sure they are comfortable. Uses patient education materials when needed.
  1. Applies and fills electrodes. Records EEG. Removes electrodes.
  1. Explains to patient when/where results will be shared.
  1. Let the Office Manager know of any supplies that need to be ordered.
  1. Responsible for cleaning/maintaining equipment, initiates maintenance repairs.
  1. Establishes safety check system for all EEG equipment, including outreach site.
  1. Completes paperwork, including charge slips for EEG or 24 HR EEG. Documents information in the patients’ medical record. Maintains EEG files. Maintains complete records on all normal and abnormal EEG’S for time periods established by protocol.

The jobholder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED. Completion of accredited EEG training program.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1year experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE:

1.  Knowledge of electroencephalogram technology, principles, and methods.

2.  Knowledge of how to use EEG and related equipment.

3.  Knowledge of customer service principles.

SKILLS:

1.  Skill in EEG concepts through effective assistance to patient care team.

2.  Skill in using EEG equipment.

3.  Skill in demonstrating customer service philosophy.

ABILITIES:

1.  Ability to interact effectively with physicians, nurses, other staff and patients.

2.  Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

3.  Ability to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.

ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an exam room and office setting. Frequent contact with diverse individuals. There may be frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Requires standing 6-8 hours/day. Must be able to lift, carry, and move 75 pounds of

equipment. There may be occasional stress in dealing with tense patients and multiple demands.
