Shoe Donation!
The Southern Illinois HFMA chapter is partnering with an organization called “The Shoeman Water Projects.” Our chapter will be soliciting gently used shoes at all our meetings. We will have a donation box onsite and would encourage everyone to donate shoes on behalf of this organization.
Here’s a little about “The Shoeman Water Projects:”
In addition to keeping usable, discarded shoes out of our local landfills, Shoeman Water Projects uses the shoes you donate to make a positive impact locally, as well as globally.
Locally, Shoeman Water Projects provides shoes to organizations supporting the homeless, veterans, children and individuals starting over after being incarcerated.
Globally, a larger percentage of the shoes are exported into a secondary market into developing countries. The revenue generated from these shoes fund operations and the water projects in some of the same developing countries. These projects may include drilling water wells, fixing hand pumps, windmill aqueducts, drinking straw filters, bucket filters or chlorination systems.
