Thirteen Colonies Advertisement

Imagine…..

The time is 1735 and you are in London. Desperate times have fallen upon the King. A population explosion in Britain has left little available space throughout the country. His people are running the risk of starving because they are unable to grow and import enough food to feed his people. There is much room in the 13 colonies, but with little information available people are hesitant to move there. The King is creating a task force to create an advertisement on each of the colonies in hopes to attract/persuade more people to North America. This should help to slow down the population burst plus make more goods available to be shipped back to the mother country.

Your Task……

You are charged with creating a type of advertisement depicting a particular colony. Remember you are also persuading the people to come to the new colony. There are at least 11 different areas that the advertisement needs to address: (Colonial Times/Information. NOT Present Day Information).

  1. Reason Founded
  2. Year Founded
  3. Who were the settlers? Quakers, Puritans, Separatists, etc. Where from Europe did they come from? England, Germany, Spain, etc,
  4. Climate
  5. Location-(New England, Middle, Southern Colony ?)
  6. Government-(Joint-Stock Company, Royal Colony, Charter Colony, Self Governing, or Proprietary Colony). Make sure to explain what this type of government is/means.
  7. Economy-How did they make their money? Trading, farming, etc.
  8. Geographic Characteristics
  9. Culture/Religion-Explain the culture/traditions/values/languages spoken for the colony and anything else about their culture. Any specific religion or was it open to all? Explain your answer
  10. Fun Facts-Any interesting Facts about the colony.
  11. Leaders of the colony-Explain why they were the leader and decided to create the colony.

The king also expects the advertisement to be illustrated to help add to

the allure of the 13 colonies. Also, a separate reference page needs to be included. To better assist you in this quest a copy of the royal scoring rubric has been included. Good Luck to Ye!!!
