These several pages are the summary of my research into 1812 veterans buried in Collin County, Texas.

I found a total of fifteen 1812 veterans buried in Collin County. I was able to locate the cemeteries where thirteen were buried.

born: circa 1790 in Georgia

died: 29 September 1859 at age 69 near McKinney

Battle of New Orleans, 5 years service

Came to Texas in 1824

Buried in Nancy Bullock Cemetery (near Millwood)

born: 28 May 1775, West Virginia

died: 10 June 1862 in Plano

Lieutenant in Illinois militia

Buried in Baccus (Cook) cemetery started 1847 by Henry Cook south of Frisco and

(4) Thomas Finley (THM2, IL1902, JG1)

born: February 25, 1790

died: August 10, 1859 in Collin County

Served as an Ensign in Illinois Militia in Col. Judy's 2nd regiment.

Buried in Young Cemetery near Frisco.

Installed bronze marker 11/6/2010. Formal dedication 11/13/2010.

born: 1790 was age 65 on 23 May 1855 and age 73 in 1863

died: 17 March 1863 in Collin County

Private in Captain Berry's company of Tennessee Militia. Was in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

born: Age 53 on 2 December 1850

died: 18 February 1876, Collin County.

(11) Thomas Rattan (Fay, page 255)

born: 1789, North Carolina

died: 1854

Private in Illinois militia. His daughter married Governor Throckmorton of McKinney.

Buried in Throckmorton cemetery between Anna and Melissa. (CCC1, page 413)

(12) George Washington Smith (Fay, page 390)

born: circa 1796, Sumner County, Tennessee

died: circa 1875 Blue Ridge, Collin County

Private in Tennessee militia.

Buried in the NW corner of the Grounds cemetery in Blue Ridge (THMI).

(13) Henry Wetsel (Fay, page 322)

born: 1791

died: 1880 Collin County

Private in Pennsylvania militia. Founded Wetsel townsite near present day Fairview.

Operated a grist mill in McKinney at South Tennessee and Ida streets.

Buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney (CCC1, page 385)

Installed bronze 1812 marker November 28, 2009. Grave dedicated

November 18, 2010. Star McKinney-Courier Gazette article published on

December 26, 2010 on the web. Also published in Plano Star Courier, Sunday

December 26, 2010 on page 3A. Purchased a memorial stone for the City of Fairview Veteran's Walk Park next to city hall on November 1, 2013. Installed in Veteran's Walk January 5, 2014.

born: September 26, 1792, Georgia

died: September 19, 1869, Collin County

Private in Tennessee militia. Fought in battle of Horseshoe Bend Alabama under Colonel Andrew Jackson.

Buried in Alexander Cemetery in Collin County (CCC1, page 6) Installed bronze 1812 marker April 27, 2013. Grave dedication November 16, 2013.

(15) Moses Sparks (CCF2 pages 249-250)

b. circa 1789 in Jefferson County, Kentucky

d. 20 December 1858

Served in Indiana Militia June, 1814 to June, 1815

Had 640 acres in the Peter’s Colony.

In 1850 Collin County census and was living with his son Richard Sparks.

Unknown burial in Collin County.
