EDITORIAL BOARD POSITIONS

Idiom: English Undergraduate Academic Journal 2011–2012

Responsibilities for all Editorial Board Members

  • Promote call for papers in ENG classes
  • Fundraise to finance journal’s publication and launch
  • Edit and prepare pieces for printing
  • Assist in organizing spring launch
  • Attend all Idiom Editorial Board meetings

Managing Editor (1)

  • Ensure all submission rules are followed
  • Maintain anonymity of all submission authors
  • Respond to student concerns or inquiries regarding submissions
  • Create a spreadsheet of all received submissions
  • Rotate submissions among editors and record editors’ responses
  • Manage submissions email account ()
  • Must have strong organizational skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

Associate Editor (1 or 2)

  • Read and judge submissions, as assigned by the Managing Editor
  • Maintain detailed notes on each submission to justify decisions
  • Must have firm grasp of the English language, mechanics, and MLA style

Layout Editor (1)

  • Oversee layout and design of Idiom
  • Ultimately responsible for layout design of all selected submissions
  • Must have experience with page layout software
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign an asset

Publicist (1)

  • Promote call for papers in ENG classes
  • Promote and assist in the organization of all fundraising initiatives
  • Serve as a non-voting Idiom rep on the ESU
  • Assist in monitoring the budget
  • Assist in overseeing financial transactions
  • Fundraise to finance journal’s publication and launch
  • Take the primary role in the orchestration of the spring launch
  • Must have strong organizational skills, a creative edge and be comfortable in leading public advertisement
