What is LIMS?

The Lambeth Integrated Musculoskeletal Services (LIMS) is a new one-stop service, combining MCATTS and Physiotherapy services, commissioned by Lambeth to provide a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment and treatment service to Lambeth residents.

·  Single point of access for all MSK referrals to include Physiotherapy, MCATTS, Orthopaedics and Rheumatology

·  Referrals via electronic ‘choose and book’

·  Fast access to the right assessment, tests and treatment

·  Seamless transfer to hospital consultants

·  Multiple choice of locations across Lambeth

Who are the team?

·  Physiotherapists including Consultants, Extended Scope and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists

·  GP with a specialist interest (GPwSi)

·  Orthopaedic Registrar

·  Service Manager

·  Referral management team


Referrals

Referrals for musculoskeletal conditions needing assessment and treatment should be made via choose and book only.

N.B. Referral forms should be attached within 24hrs to avoid delays. Up to 5 working days should be allowed for referrals to be processed. Patients will be contacted by telephone therefore it is essential that correct contact details are provided, including a home and mobile phone number if available.

Referral exclusions

·  Patients aged under 16 years

·  Red Flags - all joints;

-  Severe, unremitting non mechanical pain, unresponsive to analgesia

-  Systemic symptoms (weight loss, fever)

-  Overlying skin erythema, heat and swelling (suggestive of tumour or infection)

-  Vascular changes

-  History of serious pathology/systemic illness

-  Cauda Equina signs and symptoms (requires urgent assessment, refer to A&E)

-  Progressive neurological deficit Fractures

-  Lumps and bumps


What happens when a referral is received?

Referrals received will be reviewed by a physiotherapist.

For us to triage patients in the right clinics please ensure adequate clinical information is provided, such as;

·  Clinical question

·  Duration of symptoms

·  Previous treatment and response to treatment

·  Investigations

·  Patient expectation

Following review patients will be triaged into;

·  Physiotherapy

·  MCATTS clinics

·  Orthopaedics or Rheumatology

·  Discharged to GP with advice or guidance for management.

Management options

·  Exercise classes

·  Mobilisation manipulation

·  Injection therapy

·  Hydrotherapy

·  Acupuncture

·  Investigations e.g. MRI, x-ray, blood tests, ultrasound etc.

·  Referall onwards to Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Pain, Neurology etc.
