Job Description

Job Purpose

To ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of the Equines at the Equine Centres and Visitor Centres in Norfolk and Suffolk.

To check that security procedures are adhered to and that there are no breaches in security.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

·  Ensure the security and safety of all Redwings equines.

·  Ensure the accurate, efficient and timely feeding of ‘extra feed’ equines.

·  Provide a level of service to ensure the optimum health of all equines.

·  Carry out any instructions left by Veterinary staff or Equine centre Managers.

·  Medication will be prescribed to some of the equines under your care, you will be expected to give this on your checks.

·  General use of tack and equine handling equipment.

·  To understand the importance of effective communication, observation and unified team work.

·  Carry out general routine security procedures.

·  Implement Redwings incident/emergency procedures if required.

·  Torches, radios, mobile telephones and vehicles to be checked on arrival and any damages logged and reported.

·  Ensure that all vehicles used during the night are to be washed, refuelled and returned in a clean and tidy condition

·  Night Logs to be completed throughout the shift.

·  Ensure that all administration sheets are completed by the end of the shift and left in the Night Folder.

·  To share driving responsibly with team members.

·  To liaise regularly with your line manager.

Maintenance of Night shift Equipment

·  The first task of Night Staff is to check all equipment and vehicles are functioning and administration completed accordingly.

·  Last task of Night Staff at the end of the shift is to ensure that all equipment is properly stored and accounted for e.g. radios, torches and phones on charge, vehicles and all keys secured. Any vehicle defects must be reported.

General

1.  Ensure that all within the teams have a grasp of the Sanctuary’s structure, values and purpose and have opportunities for involvement in its further development.

2.  Ensure the maintenance of confidentiality in respect of staff, volunteer and client records and all privileged information relating to the services of the Charity, its Equines, staff and supporters and particularly of the area for which directly involved.

3.  Promote and foster the Sanctuary’s reputation and standing within the community and nationally; with private, statutory and voluntary sector agencies and organisations.

4.  Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required. i.e. attend meetings which may fall outside normal working hours or weekends.

The ability to spot something is potently wrong, observing changes in Equines or property.
