Promoting Northern Alberta / Collaborative Approach

Exciting times are ahead for Northern Alberta. FHNAS has raised the funds and through, Kodiak Studies, has contracted a Website/App development team to begin building the Online Self Guided Tour.

The approach of FHNAS is to collaboratively promote the history & tourism opportunities of Northern Alberta in once place. It is not our intent to replace existing websites and marketing programs but to be a conduit to lead guests and residents alike to these places.

Northern Alberta attracts 6% of Alberta’s tourism market and we are confident that this collaborative approach, combined with social media promotions, will increase this number and help the economies of Northern Alberta grow and flourish.

To raise the needed funds to successfully launch the Tour and become sustainable we are asking the Municipal Districts, Towns, and other related organizations to financially contribute to the cause. We are asking for $5,000 each but are also cognizant of the current economical situation and this amount is negotiable.

The investment is not only for financial needs but shows a partnering for the project. We expect to have at least 7500 Points of Interest on our map-based website and our first focus will be to enter those of contributing regions.

If your Municipal District or Town would like to contribute and become involved, please contact Sheila at 780-805-1390 or

Preparing for the Launch:

We are estimating that the Launch of the Online Self-Guided Tour will take place in September or October – 2016. We will be inviting all of 34 Municipal Districts, plus Towns, Tourism Groups etc. to set up a trade show like table highlighting your regions attractions at the Smith Community Complex. We will be encouraging all forms of media to come to the launch party. By having this trade show type set up it will create a visual of all that the website and app covers. Stay tuned for the date.

To initiate History Check, which is will be the online self guided tour of Northern Alberta, we have been seeking seed money from municipal districts and counties as well as other forms of grants. Those MD’s who have contributed will be our priority in:

  • Researching and adding historical Points of Interest
  • Searching for and adding other Points of Interest including tourism services and attractions.
  • Will have access to data we gather from the website and app usage.
  • Social Media Posts and Promotion
  • Future Promotions that highlight Northern Alberta and its recreational opportunities.
