Hooked on Christ - We join with the Cadets this week in reflecting on their theme for this season of Cadetting. In Matthew 4:18-22 Jesus encounters first Simon (Peter) and his brother Andrew then, a little later, James and his brother John. To each of them –and to us- Jesus addresses the words of verse 19: “Come, follow me … and I will send you out to fish for people.” There are really three very important parts to this call of Jesus that we will look at together. We will focus on “THE CALL” itself (“Come, follow me”); “THE CHANGE IN US BECAUSE OF THE CALL” (“I will send you out”); and at “THE CATCH OF THE CALL”. (“… to fish for people”).

Wear Your Breastplate - Last week we learned about the importance of the belt of God’s truth in the armor we are to wear. This week we look at the breastplate of righteousness. Righteousness is like a breastplate because it is righteousness that protects the vital spiritual organs of the soldier of Christ. To the Roman solider the Breastplate was vital. It was essential to a solider in Paul’s day precisely because it protected the most vital organs of the human body. Righteousness is what protects our most vital spiritual organs. That is, the righteousness of Jesus imputed to us is our breastplate that protects our heart. An important insight that we will explore is that while such a breastplate is of huge importance in protecting us it does us no good at all unless we actually wear it.
