available for Victorian Traditional Owners
Introduction
This guide provides an overview of training and resources provided by Aboriginal Victoria that may be useful for Victorian Traditional Owners.
Aboriginal Victoria broadly works on:
• Aboriginal policy reform with a focus on self-determination
• community strengthening and engagement
• cultural heritage management and protection (including the implementation of Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006)

Training
Aboriginal Victoria provides a range of training from annual accredited training such as the Certificate IV in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management, through to short workshops that are delivered in response to Traditional Owner interest.

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management / Past and Present Workshop
(3 days) / Interactive, activity based workshop covering key principles, practical skills and legislative requirements for cultural heritage management
Precursor to the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Cert IV / Traditional Owners
Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Cert IV
(9 x 5 days over 10 months) / University based Certificate IV course comprising 14 units of study covering a wide range of skills in cultural heritage management, industry expectations and archaeology / Traditional Owners
Regional cultural heritage management workshops
(16 per year, 1-3 days) / Ad hoc workshops designed and delivered with Traditional Owner groups on aspects of cultural heritage management – for example:
• evaluation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans including enforceable conditions and contingencies
• identification and management of scarred trees
• 3D digital recording
• stone artefact identification

Aboriginal cultural places registration / Assistance documenting cultural places of contemporary, social or spiritual significance for registration on the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Register, including community cultural mapping to determine place extent / Traditional Owners

RAP Sector
Support / RAP applicant grant / One-off grant for Traditional Owner groups to provide assistance with expenses incurred when developing RAP applications to the VAHC / Traditional Owner groups
RAP establishment grant / A one-off establishment grant to assist a newly appointed RAP organisation to establish its operations as a RAP / RAPs
RAP operating grants / Base operational funding for all RAP organisations following their appointment by the VAHC. Operational funding includes a mix of grant funding and the prescribed fees paid to RAPs for their statutory responsibilities / RAPs
Business planning / Assistance available to newly appointed RAP organisations to support development of business plans that will guide their operations as a RAP / RAPs
Project assistance / Assistance that can be provided to meet special needs of a RAP organisation. Requests are considered on a case by case basis / RAPs
RAP forum / Two state-wide RAP forums are held each year to provide opportunities for RAPs to come together to network , engage with government and other agencies, and discuss delivery of their statutory and other responsibilities / RAPs
