THE EVANGEL VOLLEYBALL TEAM HAD TWO MATCHES THIS PAST WEEK. ON FRIDAY, THE LADY CRUSADERS SWEPT BAKER FOR THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN THIS SEASON. EVANGEL PLAYERS VICTORIA FISHBACK HAD 32 ASSISTS AND EIGHT DIGS, WHILE JORDEN STACEY LED WITH 28 DIGS. IT WAS ON SATURDAY THAT 8 AND 4 BENEDICTINE CAME TO TOWN TO TAKE ON THE LADYS, WINNING THREE GAMES IN A ROW TO TAKE THE MATCH. THE NUMBER 12 LSU TIGERS CAME INTO STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI HOPING TO IMPROVE THEIR RANKING AGAINST AN UNRANKED MISSISSIPPI STATE TEAM. INSTEAD THEY FOUND THEMSELVES IN A DOG FIGHT – WITH A MUCH BIGGER DOG. THE BULLDOGS SCORED FIRST WITH A NICK FITZGERALD 3-YARD RUN. LSU CAME RIGHT BACK WITH A TOUCHDOWN OF THEIR OWN FROM DARREL WILLIAMS 10 YARDS OUT. THAT’S AS FAR AS LSU WOULD GO AS THE REST OF THE SCORING IN THE GAME CAME FROM MISSISSIPPI STATE. WHEN IT WAS ALL OVER, THE BULLDOGS SCORED 37 TO THE TIGERS 7. THE BULLDOGS HAD 465 TOTAL YARDS OF OFFENSE AND 25 FIRST DOWNS, NEARLY DOUBLING THAT OF LSU.

CAM 3 – JAYCE

THE NUMBER 3 TEAM CLEMSON TRAVELED ON SATURDAY TO FACE OFF AGAINST NUMBER 14 LOUISVILLE, A MATCH WHICH WAS SURE TO BE AN EXCITING ONE. CLEMSON’S DEFENSE PROVED TO BE A ESSENTIAL PIECE OF THEIR WIN, HOLDING BACK THE CARDINALS TO ONLY SCORING ONCE THROUGHOUT THREE CONSECUTIVE QUARTERS. CLEMSON QUARTERBACK KELLY BRYANT HELPED GET THE TIGERS TO AN IMPRESSIVE 47-21 WIN. CLEMSON WILL BE TAKING ON BOSTON COLLEGE THIS SATURDAY

CONTINUE ON CAM 3 - JAYCE

THE TEXAS LONGHORNS TOOK THE FIGHT TO THE USC TROJANS LAST WEEK, BOTH TEAMS ADMITTING TO SLOPPY PLAYS THROUGHOUT. THE SCORE AT HALFTIME WAS 7-14, UP USC. ATTEMPTING A COMEBACK, TEXAS HELPED PUSH THE SCORE TO 17-17 BY THE THE END OF THE FOURTH QUARTER, CAUSING THE MATCH TO END WITH DOUBLE-OVERTIME AND A 43-YARD FIELD GOAL BY USC’S CHASE MCGRATH. THE FINAL SCORE WAS A CLOSE 27-24. THE TROJAN CHAMPIONS WILL TAKE ON THE CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS THIS SATURDAY.

CAM 1 – BRICE

THE 7TH RANKED MICHIGAN WOLVERINES FOUND OUT JUST HOW GOOD A KICKER THEY HAVE IN THEIR GAME AGAINST AIR FORCE. MICHIGAN’S QUINN NORDIN KICKED FIVE FIELD GOALS TO TIE A SCHOOL RECORD. AIR FORCE’S DEFENSE KEPT MICHIGAN’S OFFENSE FROM SCORING IN THE RED ZONE, CREATING THE KICKING OPPORTUNITIES. AFTER THE HALF, WOLVERINE DONOVAN PEOPLES-JONES RETURNED A 79 YARD PUNT FOR A TOUCHDOWN, GIVING MICHIGAN THEIR BIGGEST LEAD. AIR FORCE CAME BACK ON A 64 YARD PASS TO RONALD CLEVELAND TO MAKE IT 13 TO 16. THAT WOULD BE IT FOR AIR FORCE AS MICHIGAN TOOK OVER THE GAME, ESPECIALLY ON DEFENSE. A 36 YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN FOR MICHIGAN’S KARAN HIGDON IN THE LAST MINUTE GAVE THE WOLVERINES A 29 TO 13 WIN.

THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS HOSTED THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS ON SUNDAY WITH THE VIKINGS WITHOUT SAM BRADFORD OUT WITH A KNEE INJURY. BACKUP CASE KEENUM STRUGGLED TO GET ANYTHING GOING FOR THE VIKINGS WHILE STEELERS QUARTERBACK BEN ROETHLISBERGER CONNECTED WITH MARTAVIS BRYANT FROM 27 YARDS TO SCORE IN THE FIRST QUARTER. THE VIKINGS COULD ONLY MANAGE 9 POINTS TOTAL FROM THREE FIELD GOALS. THE STEELERS SCORED FOUR FIELD GOALS AFTER THE HALF TO FINISH WITH 26 POINTS IN THE GAME. PITTSBURGH DOMINATED TIME OF POSSESSION WITH NEARLY 35 MINUTES OF PLAY.

CONTINUE ON CAM 1 – BRICE

HURRICANE IRMA IS NOW HISTORY, BUT THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS CREATED A BIT OF A HURRICANE THEMSELVES ON THEIR HOME TURF AGAINST THE CHICAGO BEARS. THE BUCCANEERS DOMINATED THE GAME SCORING 26 POINTS IN THE FIRST HALF TO CHICAGO’S ZERO. THE 3RD QUARTER WAS A DEFENSIVE BATTLE WITH NEITHER TEAM ABLE TO SCORE. CHICAGO MANAGED TO PULL THINGS TOGETHER WELL ENOUGH TO SCORE IN THE LAST TWO MINUTES OF PLAY, TO MAKE THE FINAL SCORE TAMPA BAY 29, CHICAGO 7. BUCCANEER NICK FOLK KICKED THREE FIELD GOALS - ONE FROM 50 YARDS OUT.

CAM 3 – JAYCE

THE GREEN BAY PACKERS ENDED THEIR REGULAR SEASON STREAK EARLY WHEN THE ATLANTA FALCONS CLOSED THE GAME AT 34-23. ATLANTA SCORED THEIR 34 TOTAL ALL WITHIN THE FIRST THREE QUARTERS, THE PACKERS LOOKING LOW AT 34-10. GREEN BAY QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS THREW TWO TOUCHDOWNS TO FINISH THE GAME IN THE FOURTH QUARTER, BUT IT WASN’T ENOUGH TO PUSH PAST ATLANTA’S LEAD. THE FALCONS ARE NOW 2-0, AND WILL BE TRAVELING TO FACE THE DETROIT LIONS THIS WEEKEND.

CAM 2 – BOTH

(DISCUSSION OF THE GAME FROM MONDAY NIGHT: DETROIT LIONS AT NY GIANTS.
LIONS WIN 24 TO 10. TWO MATTHEW STAFFORD TOUCHDOWN PASSES. NEW YORK RECEIVERS WITH A NUMBER OF DROPPED PASSES. ELI MANNING WAS SACKED 5 TIMES. STATS WERE FAIRLY EVEN, BUT DETROIT WAS ABLE TO SCORE. JAMAL AGNEW HAD A 88 YARD PUNT RUN BACK FOR TOUCHDOWN FOR DETROIT. TRANSITION TO BASEBALL GETTING READY FOR THE PLAYOFFS)

SEPTEMBER IS A TIME IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WHEN DIVISION LEADERS ATTEMPT TO SEAL THE DEAL IN TERMS OF MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. ONE TEAM HAS DONE THAT – THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS. THREE TEAMS HAVE CLINCHED THEIR DIVISIONS – THE HOUSTON ASTROS, THE CLEVELAND INDIANS AND THE WASHINGTON NATIONALS. IN OTHER DIVISIONS THE RED SOX HOLD A 3-GAME LEAD ON THE YANKEES, AND THE CUBS HOLD A 4 GAME LEAD ON THE BREWERS AND 6 GAME LEAD ON THE CARDNIALS. TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR THOSE TEAMS VYING FOR THE WILDCARD SPOTS. THE FIRST PLAYOFF GAME BEGINS ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3RD WITH THE AMERICAN LEAD WILD-CARD GAME. CAM 1 – BRICE

COMING UP THIS SATURDAY THE EVANGEL FOOTBALL TEAM HAS A HOME GAME AT THE OZARK HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM AGAINST 2 AND 2 WILLIAM PENN AT 1:30 PM. WILLIAM PENN IS A RUSHING TEAM WITH TEN RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS AND ONLY 3 THROUGH PASSING.

THE EVANGEL GOLF TEAM HAS STARTED THEIR SEASON. THEY WILL PLAY NEXT AT THE MISSOURI VALLEY FALL INVITATIONAL IN MARSHALL MISSOUI ON SEPT. 25.

THE MEN’S SOCCER TEAM ALSO PLAYS ON SATURDAY AT HOME ON CORYELL AGAINST CULVER-STOCKTON. CULVER-STOCKTON IS 2 -2 AND 2 OVERALL, NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM EVANGEL. THIS SHOULD BE A GOOD GAME BETWEEN TWO FAIRLY EVENLY MATCHED TEAMS. GAME STARTS AT 3:30 Pm.

CAM 3 – JAYCE

THE WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM WILL ALSO BE FACING OFF AGAINST CULVER-STOCKTON, BUT AT THE EARLIER TIME OF 1:30 pm. THE LADIES OF CULVER-STOCKTON ARE 3 AND 3. CULVER HAS A .216 GOALS PER SHOT RATIO VERSUS EVANGEL’S .198, SO VERY SIMILAR ON THAT STATISTIC. HOWEVER, EVANGEL IS RANKED NUMBER 9 IN TOTAL ASSISTS IN DIVISION 1 PLAY AND NUMBER 11 IN ASSISTS PER GAME. CULVER-STOCKTON HAS NO RANKINGS ANYWHERE NEAR THE TOP. WE MUST KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS A CONFERENCE OPPONENT, SO THE GAME SHOULD BE A GOOD ONE.
CROSS COUNTRY HAS A SHORT BREAK BEFORE THEIR NEXT MEET, WHICH IS ON SEPTEMBER 30 IN FAYETTEVILLE ARKANSAS.

EVANGEL’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM WILL BE PLAYING TWICE THIS WEEKEND, FRIDAY AT 6 P.M. AGAINST GRACELAND AND 10 A.M. SATURDAY AT PERU STATE.
