You mustuse a single catalog to meet all your degree requirements for major, minor and general studies. Refer to "Catalog Requirements " in an MSCD catalog for guidelines for choosing your catalog. Students entering MSCD Fall 1992 or later must fulfill the multicultural requirement for a degree.

College Degree Requirements:

□ Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours

□ Complete a minimum of 40 upper division credit hours

Reminder: No more than 4 semester hours in human performance and leisure activity (HPL) or varsity sports (ATH) will be counted towards a bachelor’s degree and no more than 7 semester hours in music ensemble will be counted towards a bachelor’s degree for students who are not majoring in music.

At least two courses of a single foreign language at or above the 2000-level. The language courses must containgrammar. Students who have not taken enough high school language courses to enter at the 2000-level are required totake the prerequisite 1000-level language courses.

For Linguistics majors who are Modern Language minors, the student must take either:

(a) Two courses of a different language than their minor at or above the 2000-level, or

(b) Two courses from III and/or IV below.

The Linguistics major is designed to help students gain knowledge about language and its significance in society, toaid students in critical thinking, and to prepare them for a world of linguistic diversity. This major is excellent forstudents who are planning careers in business, law, education, or writing. The major also prepares students forgraduate programs in linguistics or a particular linguistics subfield, such as anthropological linguistics, sociolinguistics,psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, modern or classical languages, or ESL.
