Summer Camp Leader

Job Description

PURPOSE:

The Camp Leader is responsible for the daily planning ofgames, crafts, special events, supervising children and volunteers in a safe environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position works under the close supervision of the Group Leader, Recreation Coordinator and the general supervision of the Recreation Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an understanding of the Auburn Hills Summer Camp program and be able to explain the program details to the community.
  • Lead daily group activities with campers including planned activities and spontaneous activities including set-up/clean-up of all activities.
  • Maintain constant supervision of campers before, during and after daily activities providing a safe environment for campers.Maintain constant communication with the Camp Group Leadergiving feedback on activities and providing new ideas for activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings & trainings.
  • Compile, prepare and update specific Day Camp records, statistics, and reports, certificates, giveaways.
  • Keep equipment rooms clean and organized throughout camp.
  • Perform all other applicable duties as designated by the Group Leader, Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Director
  • Explain, demonstrate, and assist campers with a wide variety of activities including: arts and crafts, songs, sports, nature, guest speakers.
  • Dress appropriately (professionally) for leading activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work effectively with children in grades 1-8 in a camp setting. General knowledge of games, sports, arts & crafts, songs.
  • Camp experience and/or education in teaching/recreation or related field.
  • Posses the ability to handle a variety of camp circumstances including direct leadership of group activities and games, cooperation with other group leaders in leading activities, creativity for new games and flexibility to change activities if necessary.
  • Interacts positively with co-workers and the community.
  • Ability to handle a variety of program demands and pressures with limited direction.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Possess good health and stamina.
  • Leadership, enthusiasm, creative, good organizational and people skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Attend camp orientation and training dates in June.
