Vice President/ Professional DevelopmentMelanie Gillespie

Discussion: NASFAA U

Plans for this year are not finalized yet. Melanie would like to do more than the normal two trainings each year maybe four. She is not sure what part of the training will involve NASFAA U. Definitely interested in verification module again. Maybe part two of the Leadership Symposium from last year’s part one. Elizabeth Milam said that we learned a lot from NASFAA U. SCASFAA saved our membership almost $4,000 in NASFAA U credentialing. SCASFAA only had to spend $1,000. SCASFAA needs to buy this earlier and get the trainers.

Katie Harrison presented a professional development scholarship proposal. This should be associated with a person for the scholarship. Kevin Perry recommended putting it as an “up to” dollar amount – like $750 and any training can fall within that amount. The board is in approval to have Melanie Gillespie work on fleshing out this proposal. Maybe a combination of SCASFAA, SASFAA, and NASFAA events.

President-Elect/Special Projects/Long-Range PlanKevin Perry

Discussion: Financial Awareness

This encompasses Financial Literacy, Debt Management, etc. SCASFAA could create a box of tools that we could offer to SCASFAA members but now EdManage does much of this now. How can we market Financial Literacy to all our members? Melanie Gillespie said that Great Lakes may be interested in these one day events. Kevin Perry said that our tiers already answer some of this. Melanie needs to set the dates of this year’s events first. Nancy Garmroth wondered if we should provide training in Financial Literacy. Elizabeth Milam asked how do we do this without alienating our sponsors? Donna Quick wants SCASFAA to compile a resource. Jennifer Williams was wondering if you had four lenders who all wanted to present at a certain event. Kevin Perry did say that SCASFAA could tailor the programs to meet the demand.

Kevin Perry motioned to accept Financial Awareness as special project; Melanie Gillespie seconded; motion carried

Discussion: SASFAA Presidents (Presidents-Elect) Exchange

SASFAA is asking for SCASFAA to comp registration, room, and expenses up to $1,000.

Secretary/By LawsKevin Delp

Kevin announced that he was leaving SCASFAA since he submitted his resignation as Director of Financial Aid at BJU. He will be starting his new job in August at HeritageBibleChurch as Director of the Children’s Ministry. According to the SCASFAA bylaws, Elizabeth will appoint a new secretary for this year with the approval of the board.

Treasurer/BudgetEarl Mayo

Discussion: Reimbursement/Travel procedures training and forms

Please use the new forms. Committee chair still has to approve the expense forms.

Treasurer-ElectCindy Peachey

Reminder: Board membersmust pay membership before next meeting

Discussion of who will go to the NASFAA Leadership Conference and Symposium. Ken Cole motion to table who goes to Leadership Symposium; Melanie Gillespie seconded; motion carried.

Member at Large/Membership Kisha Dawkins

Discussion: SCSU

Should someone personally go to the directors of the college and universities that are not participating in SCASFAA? Is there something that we could offer that SCASFAA currently doesn’t offer like evaluating processes at these schools to help them out. How can we reach out and what are the benefits?
