Background

Anthony Nolan is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Every day, we match remarkable donors willing to donate their bone marrow to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants. We operate the UK’s bone marrow register with over 508,000 potential donors. Last year we gave over 1,200 people the chance of life and our goal is to save the life of everyone who needs a bone marrow transplant. An example of the impact of our work can be seen in Lucas’ story www.vimeo.com/68129582

Our Fundraising income has grown rapidly from £4.6m in 08/09 to £12m in 14/15. The Corporate and Special Event income is budgeted to be £688k of this in 14/15, and is forecasted to be above budget. Our emotive case for support works well for all audiences and we are fortunate to benefit from very strong support from people who have a personal connection to our work. We implement holistic supporter development where we look to build long term relationships with supporters, enabling them to help the charity in a range of both financial and non-financial ways. Our guiding principle is to work in the way that is best for our supporters, so we work collaboratively across Fundraising without siloes, sharing contacts and actively cross selling all opportunities.

Our Corporate and Special Events Fundraising strategy focuses on building relationships with companies to secure sponsorship, donations, CRMs and charity of the year partnerships. We have a strong track record in out performing charity partnership targets. Our Charity of the Year partnerships with Wilkinsons stores raised £1.67m in 2011, double the previous year’s total and smashing the £1m target. In 13/14 we raised £130k with Virgin Money, exceeding the £100k target. We look to maximize opportunities from personal links within companies, particularly where a staff member has had a bone marrow transplant or needs a transplant donor.

We have had a number of successes with media appeals, including being one of the ITV Text Santa 2012 beneficiary charities (raising £919k) and have a current year long media partnership with Trinity Mirror group.

Our Special Events programme includes our flagship black tie event, the Daisy Ball. Now in its 20th year, the Daisy Ball raises over £350k pa and is attended by c800 people each year. The Special Events programme also includes an annual Golf event at Sunningdale and a Carol Concert in London.

We have recently won a six figure partnership with a major retailer for 14/15 which will launch in September 2014. The Head of Corporate Partnerships will oversee the successful delivery of this partnership, along with driving the new business strategy and pipeline and managing the work and personal development of the team. The Corporate Fundraising programme is supported by Anthony Nolan’s Trustees (many of whom are on the Daisy Ball committee), our CEO and our senior staff.

It is an exciting time to join Anthony Nolan – our brand awareness is growing and will be strengthened further by a current brand refresh project due to complete in October 2014. The charity is committed to supporting Fundraising and we have ambitious plans for growth in income, the number of people we add to the bone marrow register and the lives that we save each year.

The Corporate team currently consists of two Senior Corporate Partnership Managers, a Special Events Manager and a Corporate Assistant.
