Assistant Leader

GENERAL STATEMENT

Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd) is an inspirational and dynamic company, where no two days are the same. The organisation’s aim is to provide activities, programmes and services that enable others to achieve their personal best.

Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd) are proud to be the largest provider of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme within Hampshire.

In 2017 the programme saw over 1,400 young people from Hampshire aged 15 to 17 years old embarking on a 4 week adventure to improve and develop the skills and attitudes they need to become active and responsible citizens who will in turn, be shaping our future.

By working in teams with other young people from their area, they begin there 4-week programme by going on a 1 week away residential. During this phase they get to partake in exciting, new activities to get to know one another and form new friendships. Week 2 gives the young people the opportunity to attend workshops to help build their professional skill sets and open their eyes in preparation for their future. Weeks 3 and 4 of the programme allows them to get more hands on by planning and delivering a social action project alongside local businesses and charities to make a positive difference to their community.

JOB PURPOSE

To build and encourage a rapport between young people and other members of the NCS team

Act as a role model to the young people to inspire and encourage them to take part in all aspects of the programme.

Liaise with the safeguarding officer to ensure young people’s wellbeing during delivery

This is a 4 week fixed term contract, non-school based role. The hours of work are variable.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Accountabilities / Accountability Statements
Delivery on NCS programmes / ·  Assist in the management of a group of 12-15, young people aged 15 to 17 years old alongside a team leader
·  Encourage and develop group cohesion during all activities and phases of the programme
·  Discuss any issues with team leaders
·  Be responsible for head counts when travelling from one place to another and be aware of group whereabouts at all times
·  Support the young people during their activities, workshops and social action project
·  Motivate and encourage young people through all aspects of the programme
·  Assist with overseeing the travel and sleeping arrangements
Timetables for all residential activities / ·  Help ensure the young people adhere to the timetables for their activities, workshops and meal times
Adhere to Safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures / ·  Be aware of safeguarding issues and have knowledge of incident / accident reporting procedures.
·  Be the first port of call for any safeguarding or first aid issues
·  Be aware of, and ensure your groups medical and dietary requirements are met
·  Be vigilant in ensuring young people have photo consent.
Sourcing equipment / ·  Assist with identify appropriate kit and equipment which is required for different activities
Staff training / ·  Attend Assessment day Date TBC.
·  Attend Staff training weekend Date TBC.
·  Complete on-line training as provided
·  Support delivery staff through ‘on-the-job’ training
Other / ·  Develop and maintain a professional relationship with fellow colleagues and young people
·  Attend and participate in the graduation event
·  Get time sheet signed by the relevant Coordinator and handed in on time
