LOGISTICAL NOTES

  • My cell phone number is (678) 234-1959, should you encounter problems with hotel reservations if you beat me to the hotel.
  • Your hotels are all pre-paid. Please make sure you are asked for a credit card for incidentals at check-in.
  • You have pre-paid for 27 holes Saturday and Sunday, 36 on Monday, and 18 on Tuesday. Our 'official' competition will end after Monday’s play. So do as you please in terms of foursomes and competition on Tuesday. If you desire to play more golf on a given day, check in with the pro shop. They can usually get you out at a discounted replay rate.
  • Your carts are also pre-paid.
  • I will make every effort to be the first one to the course each morning to provide our payment vouchers and check you in. Most likely you will only need to pay for any range ball tokens and potentially GPS (see below)
  • Some Trail facilities have GPS units in the carts for distances. Sometimes this is included in the cart fee and other times we’ve had to pay at the course. Last year I think it was all pre-paid …
  • Please keep the pace of play moving. Trail courses are hard and play slow normally. While we have 5 hours between most morning/afternoon tee times, this may be pushing it. This is especially important on Monday, when we play 36 holes. The afternoon 4-man scramble is the most enjoyable event of the trip, and if we don’t keep play moving in under 5 hours we may not finish before dark (as happened in the past).
  • Special note: On Monday, we request that the earlier members of your 4-man scramble team buy lunch at the turn for the later members. That way, should we be running behind schedule, your team can move right to the first tee of the scramble without lunch delays.

RULES

In order to expedite play, to minimize frustration and profanity, and to provide an enjoyable Trail experience, we do not play golf on the trip, but a modified version of it. To that end, we will enact the following rules. As always, golf is a gentlemanly game of honor, so please respect these guidelines and ask for your foursome's consensus if in doubt.

  • All of your handicaps have been adjusted according to USGA specifications based on the slope and rating of the set of tees you are assigned to play each day. This means everyone is playing on a level playing field regardless of tees. Net scores are directly comparable. You need to stick to your tee assignments to make this work.
  • We will play lost balls and out-of-bounds as lateral hazards rather than stroke-and-distance. Pick a reasonable drop area where you think your ball was lost, or crossed OB, drop, and take a penalty stroke.
  • Bumping the ball to improve your lie will be allowed in the fairway. Much to my chagrin, it will also be allowed in the rough. Please keep it within 6" of the original ball location, and bump so that you do not improve your stance or the flight line of the shot (e.g., taking a tree out of play). Bumping is not allowed in any hazards (bunkers or water hazards).
  • There will be a maximum score of triple-bogey per hole. Favor will be shown for natural triples vs. picked-up triples, so please note pick-ups on the scorecard with a plus sign.
  • One breakfast ball will be permitted on the first tee of the morning round each day.
  • Please make sure your scorecards are turned in to Mowchan or myself after your rounds. We need hole-by-hole scores to properly keep score, so telling us you shot 92 won’t cut it. If you would like a copy of your card make one before turning it in to us.

9th Annual Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Outing

Team Competition

We will be split into two 8-man teams. Handicaps, in parenthesis, will be taken into account when applicable. These are your normalized handicap indices; course handicaps will be adjusted based upon the course slope and rating for the set of tees you play so everyone is on a level playing field.
