This course introduces basic drawing techniques and is designed to increase the students'observation and analytical skills as well as to develop basic drawing skills. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of both perceptual and conceptualdrawings using observational and analytical drawing methods.
- To introduce drawing skills both in real or imaginary situations with rendering techniques.
- To accurately communicate the way objects and spaces look in projections.
- To develop the ability to express design ideas through drawing.
- To develop a basic vocabulary of drawing and some ability to speak about your work.
- To develop effective studio work habits (punctuality, time management, regular submission, coming equipped to class, appropriate studio behaviour, keeping the studio clean)
Each student is assigned to a color group and must sit in the area allocated for that color group. Every four weeks, each color group will be tutored by one instructor who will be rotating throughout the semester.

You are recommended to keep a sketch book into which you take in-class notes, diagram the topics introduced, make sketches given each week and record your studio designs. Sketch books will be checked at the end of the semester and graded as a bonus part of your performance grade.

Student assessment will be carried out by considering your progress in class assignments, mid-term exams and final exam, your performance and participation, end-of-semester portfolio as well as sketch book as a bonus. The evaluation of the mid-terms and final examswill be based on the quality and execution of drawings according to the grading criteria. Grades will be assigned according to the IEU standard grading system. The course grade will be determined by:

- Attendance is required at all times. Students are expected to come to class fully prepared to execute course assignments and other related material.
- As this is a studio class, students must attend a minimum of 80% of the class timeto receive a passing grade from the course.
- Attendance to the course means working in the studio to develop the projects under the guidance of the instructors during the class time. In addition to attendance, students have to be in class on time. The attendance will be taken twice (in the first 15 minutes and at the end of the course)
- Most of the studio assignments have to be developed and elaborated in class. This means that each week the students have to bring their drawing equipment with them to class. In case extra research or working materials are needed, it will be announced prior to the next class; it is the student's responsibility to keep track of this information.
- All presentations are conducted in English; presentations or questions in Turkish are not accepted.
- Students are expected to work in the studio during course time. No visitors are allowed.
- Students in the studio are expected to act in a manner that shows respect for his or her work and for the work of others.
- Eating, drinking, listening to music and smoking are strictly forbidden in the studio environment.
- Late drawing projectswith a medical report, will be only accepted within one week of the submission date without a drop in grade. Late drawing projects without a medical report will be accepted within one week of the submission datewith a 20%drop in grade and for three weeks per semester. Any work submitted after one week of the submission date will not be accepted.
- It is the university’s policy that medical reports do not excuse you from the attendance (See The Bylaw Concerning Undergraduate Period of Study, Examinations and Assessment, Article 9-Attendance:
- It is assumed that the work you submit for this course, whether written or graphic, is your own. Any attempt to represent someone else's work as your own or allow your work to be used by others will be considered academic misconduct (cheating).The work of any student displaying academic misconduct will both warrant a suspension from the institution for a period of one semester and be graded zero in performance and participation(See The Disciplinary Bylaw for Students – Article 7:
