KUED’s Diverse Voices campaign is a multi-faceted project that encompasses programming and activities about diverse populations, cultures, and topics. The Diverse Voices campaign uses key PBS and KUED productions as a springboard for open dialogue and meaningful action in the community. Examples of topics covered included the environment, Holocaust memorial, homeless veteran’s issues, religion, education, politics, and cultural diversity. Another massive project KUED undertook is the “Freedom Riders” project uncovering the story of the 1960s Freedom Rides through the Deep South. KUED produced a local follow-up about civil rights activities in Utah: Utah’s Freedom Riders, and worked with eight teenage filmmakers on four short films about their views of freedom and civil rights in 2011. They included Hispanic, African-American, and Muslim students. We worked with a variety of community partners to present screenings, exhibits and other related activities.
KUED’s public service segment, “Contact”, features guests from the non-profit community, many of them regarding training opportunities, volunteer opportunities and a wide variety of services.
