Objectives / ·  Students will explore and become proficient in the use of the “Slides” application in Google Chrome in order to have immediate familiarity with the application when the “Fantasy Draft” assignment is given as part of Chapter 29.

Plan / ·  SS Technology Lesson, students will use their assigned chrome books to create their own WPHS FACE PAGE.
·  The instructions for the project, and its rubric are on the template, which students will rename before beginning the assignment.
·  Students will share their Face Page with their fellow social studies students.

Objectives / ·  Describe how the Axis powers came to control much of Europe—but failed to conquer Britain.
·  Summarize Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union.
·  Understand the horror of the genocide the Nazis committed.
·  Describe the role of the United States before and after joining World War II.

Plan / ·  Review the day’s objectives.
·  Review what was learned last Thursday about Neville Chamberlin and appeasement, and what was learned yesterday in the film The Rise and Fall of Adolph Hitler.
·  Review questions three through five on page 938 for the daily writing assignment.
·  Chapter TWENTY-NINE Section TWO The Axis Advances, part one pages 930-938.
·  Distribute copies of Churchill’s speeches; review and discuss them in class using the HOM skills to analyze the documents—ask students what other methods leaders use to rally their citizens to support a cause. ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: After reading the two Churchill speeches, the members of the class will go to the side of the room which corresponds to which of the two speeches they feel was the most powerful, and engage in a cross-room discussion of why they arrived at those viewpoints.
·  Review how the day’s objectives have been met and answer questions three and four on page 929 for the daily writing assignment.

·  Preview section review questions two-through five on page 947.
·  Chapter TWENTY-NINE Section THREE The Allies Turn the Tide, pages 939-947
·  Focus on understanding the concepts of internment and rationing as students work through the material on the assigned pages.
·  ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY: Distribute the Civil Liberties/Civil Rights handout/puzzle; review with students. On the daily writing sheets, students will then answer the following question: During time of war, does a government have the right to take away civil liberties? Students will exchange answers using the slide rule strategy.
·  Answer questions two-through five in the daily writes.
