JOB DESCRIPTION

CITY OF CHANHASSEN

POSITION: Senior Center CoordinatorSTATUS: Exempt

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

Responsible for all senior center operations including planning,organizing, and supervising recreational and educational programming for seniors. Also acts as the senior advisory board liaison and overseesthe congregate dining program.

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:Parks & Recreation Director

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Schedule Senior Center activities and maintain daily operations:
  1. Coordinates all aspects of daily and recurring programs, special events, and one-day or extended trips including logistics, catering, speakers, etc.
  2. Keeps current on emerging trends and issues, and creates programs or events to engage new and existing Senior Center participants.
  3. Prepares, recommends, and administers the Senior Center budget.
  4. Maintains accurate records, statistics, and reports, and contributes information to Parks & Recreation Annual Report.
  5. Supervises volunteer staff providing office and event assistance.
  6. Secure funding for programs through fundraising, grant opportunities, etc.
  7. Evaluates and updates program offerings as needed.
  1. Senior Advisory Board and Senior Commission:
  1. Arranges and attendsmonthly meetings.
  2. Works with chairperson to set the agendas, and prepares applicable information for the board.
  3. Recruits and maintains a seven-person advisory board.
  4. Coordinatesjoint meetings with the Senior Commission.
  1. Marketing and Communications:
  1. Coordinates all marketing and promotionalmaterials including print and online publications, letters, news releases, and social media posts with administrative staff.
  2. Submitsaquarterly senior column for the local newspaper.
  3. Writes articles and program descriptions for the citywide and senior newsletters.
  4. Maintains senior mailing and emergency contact lists.
  1. Schedule Senior Center for all senior and non-senior activities.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Human Services, Gerontology or closely-related field.
  1. Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years’ responsible experience working directly with aging population and/or previous programming background.
  1. Combinations of applicable education and experience may be considered.
  1. Valid driver’s license.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  1. Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  1. Working knowledge of current issues and programs for aging populations.
  1. Knowledge of gerontology and the ability to develop and implement sound programs for the aging.
