Using AgentServices to Segment Your Anthem Book of Business Into Grandfathered and Non-Grandfathered Clients

Definitions:

  • Grandfathered plans/policies have original effective dates on or before March 23, 2010. This also includes any of your clients who downgraded within their portfolio after that date and retained their grandfathered status.
  • Non-grandfathered plans/policies have original effective dates of March 24, 2010 and later. This also includes grandfathered clients who subsequently moved to a non-grandfathered plan/policy.

Steps to locate your Anthem grandfathered vs. non-grandfathered clients:

  1. Log into the Anthem broker site, select AgentServices, and select Policy Detail Listing.

  1. Select Policy Type = Medical, Product Type = Individual and hit the Search button.
  2. Click on Original Effective Date to sort in oldest to newest order. Note that although this is labeled “Original Effective Date”, it is actually the effective date of the client’s current coverage. So, for example, if they changed coverage on 6/1/12 and haven’t changed coverage since, 6/1/2012 will appear.

  1. Hit the Download button and Save to your computer desktop*
  2. Open the spreadsheet and look for the contract code column.
  3. To determine which members are on grandfathered or non-grandfathered plans, lookup the contract code and compare to the excel file for the appropriate state “Grandfathered and Non-Grandfathered Plan Code Listing” below.

*After you download your policy detail list, do a “Save As”, giving the file the desired name and saving as an Excel document. This will ensure that any edits you make will be saved.

**Premier plans were introduced after March 23, 2010. Therefore, none of your clients on Premier policies will be grandfathered.
