Job Title: Finance Officer – freelance contract
Salary: £20.60 per hour up to 364 hours per year
Responsible to: Director - CDET
Key Relationships (Internal): Director and Hon Treasurer
Key Relationships (External): Accountants, Auditors and Bank Staff
Start Date: Immediate
Hours: 7 hours per week (excluding lunch) with flexible office hours between 9.30 am – 5.00 pm
Base: Normally at CDET’s office at Old Brewer’s Yard, 17 – 19 Neal Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9UY
Notice period: One month
Purpose of Post
To manage all financial operations of the organisation including: accounting for expenditure and income, producing financial reports, preparing working and annual budgets and managing cash flow and all financial transactions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Working to the Director:
Systems:
- Maintaining and updating accounts using SAGE accountancy package.
- Train identified CDET staff in using systems and producing reports.
- Ensuring coding system is adhered to and revisions made as necessary.
- Reviewing internal financial procedures and recommending changes.
- Maintain separate funds for each project area
- Incorporate SAGE forms (invoices etc.) into financial processes.
Financial operations:
- Advise Director on budget setting for core and project expenditure
- Produce cash flows for core areas and projects
- Monitor budgets with key staff members
- Produce monthly reports and bank reconciliations
- Raise invoices and prepare cheques for signature against invoices received
- Set up and operate internet bank transactions
- Ensure that cheque books and statements are available as required
- Administer all financial transactions with clients, staff and bank
- Pay salaries using SAGE payroll and ensure that salaries are properly calculated and that tax and other deductions are properly accounted for.
Reporting:
- Produce financial returns for funding bodies
- Produce annual returns and trial balance for audit
- Work with auditors to produce Annual Financial Reports.
- Make returns to Companies House and Charity Commission to meet legal requirements
Board:
- Production of quarterly returns for the Board
- Produce papers as requested on financial operations and auditing
- To attend Board meetings as requested by the Director and or Board members.
General:
- To promote the Council’s Equal Opportunities policy.
- To participate in the training of staff and trainees as appropriate.
- To undertake such training as may be required for the better undertaking of duties.
