Advanced Graphic Design: Advertising Syllabus

Bachelor of Science in Art and Education/Music Minor, Campbellsville University

1 Trimester - .5 credit

Recommended Grade Level: 10-12

Prerequisite: Graphic Design and Permission of Instructor

Course Description:

Students will continue projects in Adobe Photoshop. Work is very career oriented and projects are more demanding than Graphic Design. This class is aimed at preparing students planning to work in a graphic design oriented career.

Materials Required:

*Notebook/Pencil

*Folder for assignments

Class Rules:

  • Respect yourself, others, and equipment.
  • Bring materials to class with you every day.
  • BE ON TIME! If you are being held by another teacher, ask him or her to call me when the bell rings, NOT after I’ve posted my attendance.
  • Listen to instructions and follow directions. Do not talk while I am talking.
  • You are not allowed to store your things in here during the day (sports equipment, PE clothes, drinks in fridge, etc.).
  • Obey all rules as laid down in the student handbook.
  • Food and drink is NOT allowed in the computer lab.
  • Only one student will be allowed to leave the room at a time to go to the restroom and you must take the hall pass. Students are not to be allowed to leave the classroom to get a drink. Do that in between classes please! If you come back from the bathroom with a drink, you may be written up.

Student Grades:

Student grades will be based upon a possible final grade of 100%. That grade is broken up in the following manner:

*Completed Projects: 75%

You are required to complete 6 pieces of art. Each piece will include research in the beginning, and a reflection at the end. Your actual sketchbook will be the 7th piece that you present. See the next page for specific instructions and due dates.

*Assessments: 25%

This includes self and peer assessments (critiques), formative, and summative; RTI; writing folder.

*Final Exam (Portfolio): 10%

For your final exam, you will present a digital portfolio of your work to the class. More information and required criteria will be available to you later.

Grading Based on The Three C’s
Concept: This includes idea/idea development and correctness of criteria included- 33%
Creativity: This refers to the usage of the elements and principles of design; originality of thought-33%
Craftsmanship: This refers to the skillful use of the art materials; clean lines-34%
Total- 100%

Requirements:

As an advanced graphic design student, you will be given more advanced projects that would be similar to the job of a graphic designer. You will use your skills to produce a variety of projects and will get to utilize your own style into the projects. You must be creative!!!

Art Self-Critique (Example)All artists must constantly evaluate both their own artwork, as well as others’ art, in order to get better. Thinking about what was successful about artwork, as well as what could have been done better, are key components to grasping how to make the best artwork possible. Think about the answers to the following questions, then create your response in several (high-school level) paragraphs.
