Opera at Florham Presents Musicale “Harvest of Arias and Songs”
MADISON, NJ (November 9, 2015)— Opera at Florham presents its next Musicale on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 3 p.m. in Lenfell Hall, Hennessy Hall, featuring a variety of famous opera arias and Broadway songs. This Musicale will take place at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s College at Florham, Madison, NJ.
The venue, Lenfell Hall located in Hennessy Hall, was the drawing room of the Twombly family when they lived in the 100-room mansion.
The Musicale will feature several distinguished performers. Soprano, Amber Daniel, recently made her debut role as Cio-Cio San inMadama Butterfly at Maestro Lorin Maazel’s 2014 Castleton Festival.She was trained at the Martina Arroyo Foundation and won 2011 Encouragement Award Winner of the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Singing Competition. André Courville, base baritone,portrayed Mephistopheles in Faust at the Academy of Vocal Arts Philadelphia, where he is a resident artist. In 2014 he sang at Carnegie Hall in Opera Orchestra, New York's Roberto Devereux, and as Monterone in Caramoor International Music Festival Rigoletto. Returning to Opera at Florham is Alasdair Kent, tenor, first prize winner of OAF’s 2015 Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition. Currently he is a Resident Artist at Academy of Vocal Arts and an Emerging Artist with Opera Philadelphia débuting as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), with Opera Philadelphia. Mary Pinto, accompanist & vocal coach, has worked with international & domestic opera singers and many major American opera companies for the past 25 yrs. She coached Metropolitan Opera stars, Susan Graham and Deborah Voight for her three Brunnhilde’s for the Met’s Ring Cycle, 2011 &2012; served as audition pianist for Met Opera auditions. She is on the faculty at Montclair State Univ.
Mary Pinto,OAF’s Vice President of Board of Trustees, has organized a program that will feature some arias that are very well known and a few less well known but all possess the thrill and passion that unifies people and brings generations of music lovers together. The second half will be classic music theatre songs that are heartwarming and reminiscent of wonderful musical moments long ago. The song list will include Mozart’s “Madamina” from Don Giovanni, Verdi’s “De mieibollentispiriti” from La Traviata, Bernstein’s “Tonight and Impossible Dream” from West Side Story, and 10 others.
Stephen DiMaio, Opera at Florham’s Board of Trustees memberand President GerderLissner Foundationwill serve as Master of Ceremonies and narrator for the Musicale.
Light refreshments will be served at intermission
Everyone is encouraged to bring children and grandchildren to Opera at Florham’s events as this is a wonderful way to introduce them to the beautiful and varied world of opera! There is no charge for children under 12 years old when accompanied by an adult.
