CHURCHILL SCHOLARSHIP

In order to be considered for nomination you must submit a PDF of the Completed Churchill Application (http://www.winstonchurchillfoundation.org/scholarship.html) to by the campus deadline. Supporting information and other forms can be downloaded from the Churchill web site at http://www.winstonchurchillfoundation.org/ . The website provides all requirements, details, and national deadlines. Please be sure to look it over carefully and follow all instructions.

Please note: Applicants must apply separately for admission to the University of Cambridge no later than mid-October; the Foundation has chosen the same deadline for the Cambridge application as the Gates Scholarship in order to facilitate the process for applicants. COMPONENTS OF THE CHURCHILL APPLICATION:

1. Proposed program of study at Cambridge (1 page typed): Include laboratory placement information, if applicable; state preference for placement in a specific research laboratory and explain. If none, please indicate. The student's proposed course of study at Cambridge should reflect a clear awareness of the faculty and facilities available there, and an understanding of the British higher educational system. Applicants should begin researching appropriate degree programs no later than spring term proceeding the year of application.

2. Personal Statement (up to two pages typed): this is a brief autobiography, including an account of your interest in science, your reasons for wishing to attend Churchill College, and your career plans.

·  For PC: save as a text file

·  Name the file as follows: your last name.first initial.trans.pdf or .txt (for example: doe.j.trans.pdf for a Mac user/ doe.j.trans.txt for a PC user)

4. Four two-page reference reports completed by referees (two more than the Cambridge University Application). Faculty members who know you well are asked to provide information on your academic qualifications, specifically your knowledge of the field, originality and imagination, and potential for success in the field. Recommenders are also asked to comment on your personal characteristics, particularly on your adaptability, maturity, and quality as an ambassador. If you plan to do a research degree, it is vital that your recommenders be able to comment on your ability to work independently and carry out research. Letters should be emailed to by the campus deadline. You must also provide your referees with the official form found at http://www.winstonchurchillfoundation.org/Forms/ChurchillRecommendatonForm2010.pdf. This should be sent in hard copy to Box 122.

5. Graduate Record Examination Scores on the General Test. Select a test date so that the Churchill Foundation receives the scores no later than the end of November. The Institution Code List number for the Winston Churchill Foundation is 3922. Scores on the GRE taken in the past two years are acceptable. MCAT scores may be substituted for the GRE; you may have a copy of your MCAT sent with your application.
