Shared Space

1. Award one point for each answer that correctly lists an item that would provide each girl with something to sleep on.

Award one point for each correct explanation of how the item would save space. Do not accept “space” as an explanation.

Examples of one-point answers include, but are not limited to:

Item / How Item Could Save Space
Bunk beds / Can be stacked
Trundle bed / Bottom bed can be pushed in when not in use
Sleeper couch / Can be opened at night for sleeping
Day bed / Can be used as a bed for sleeping and a couch during the day
Futon / Can be folded up during the day
Air mattress / Can be flattened during the day or pushed underneath a bed
Hammock / Does not use floor space
Captain’s bed / Drawers under bed can be used for storage

Award zero points for each answer that is completely incorrect, irrelevant, or incoherent.

[1 point each for a total of 4 points]

2. Award one point for each answer that correctly identifies a way Fatimah can plan for storage space other than the closet.

Examples of one-point answers include, but are not limited to:

¨  Stack plastic storage crates/totes

¨  Put boxes under the beds

¨  Raise the beds on blocks to make more space underneath

¨  Put a bookcase at the end of the bed

¨  Over-door hangers

Award zero points for each answer that is completely incorrect, irrelevant, or incoherent.

[1 point each for a total of 3 points]

3. Award one point for each answer that correctly explains how privacy can be created for the girls.

Examples of one-point answers include, but are not limited to:

¨  Arrange the furniture so that each girl has her own space

¨  Use folding screens to divide the room

¨  Hang curtains or beads to create a room division

¨  Use area rugs

¨  Use different colors for each area

Award zero points for each answer that is completely incorrect, irrelevant, or incoherent.

[1 point each for a total of 2 points]

4. Award one point for each answer that correctly describes a way Laura can personalize her space.

Examples of one-point answers include but are not limited to:

¨  Hang favorite posters

¨  Bring own bedspread/comforter

¨  Display pictures of her friends and family

¨  Display favorite stuffed animals, collections, mementos

¨  Use favorite colors

Award zero points for each answer that is completely incorrect, irrelevant, or incoherent.

[1 point each for a total of 3 points]

5. Award one point for each rule that will help avoid conflicts.

Examples of one-point answers include but are not limited to:

¨  Ask permission before using each other's things

¨  Share cleaning chores

¨  Agree on quiet times for sleeping/studying

¨  Set up a schedule for using shared equipment (stero, computer, etc.)

Award zero points for each answer that is completely incorrect, irrelevant, or incoherent.
