A PLAN FOR A CAREER.....

I want to become a specialist, qualified in the treatment of preventing the progression ofcancer by focusing on the improvement of health in the UK.Firstly, I aim to obtain a BachelorsofScience (Hons) degree in Radiography (Therapeutic) at the University of Portsmouthby 2015.Then continue to learn andbecome a teacher ofhealth by sharing toolswhich can be usedby people to helplive a morehealthy and balanced lifestyle. Especially in patients who have been diagnosed with cancer to increase survival rates and reduce co-morbidities.

I amdedicatedto the care of a patient and the improvement of health in people. I alsofeel that there could be more support and guidance involvedin the pathway ofaftercarefor patients who have been diagnosed with cancer, both during and post treatment. Particularly patients who are facing or have undergonea mastectomy or an invasive brachytherapy treatment. My particular goal is to introduce a programinto the healthcare services in England for patients who have been diagnosed and treated for cancer.Researchhas shownthat patients whohaveamore positive mindset in generalincreases their chance of long-term survival.

Iaim for myambitions to have a positive impact on thedrive forpatientsto feel supportedin their fight against cancerand to feel confident enough tomake a good progressioninto life withcourage about their side effects from treatment andto become overall proud of their journey. Introducing a patient to a morehealthy mindset and lifestylecould reduceco-morbidities andincrease long-term survival rates, self-esteem levels and generallyimprove quality of life.In the long-term,this helpstowards reducingthe current strainon the workloadof the National Healthcare Service (NHS).

I am a kind and determined individual whoshows extreme passion for healthcare, yoga, meditationand travelling. I feel that there is aopportunity to improve the health of people by introducing a programwhich involveseducatingpatients, mainly who have been diagnosed with cancer how to practise meditation at home or in support groups in order to improve mental concentrationand quality of life.I have decided to focus my dissertation on'whether meditationis an effectivetoolfor patients who have been diagnosed withcancer'.If so, Ihope in the future meditation services could be delivered in healthcare services similar tohow Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is within the NHS.

I trust thatgaining experience as a healthcare professional within the industry of oncology, along with my enthusiasm for patient care will set a path in motion to explore the network of healthcare services in the world. I am happy to travelthe country or the worldto build this aftercare program for patients, whether it effects the life of one person in a positive way or millions then I feel that it was worth the journey to try.I am non-judgemental, warm, friendly, calming and a committed individual who can be a good team player yetwhen focused prefers to work alone. Professional andmainlythoughtful towards the emotional feelings of others.
