2.  Catalog Description [§335.2]:

Designed for those transcribing oral communication (dictation) into writing. This course stresses spelling, grammar, mechanics, punctuation, and usage. These skills are taught in the context of proofreading, copy editing, and listening.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

·  Communicate effectively using standard business English.

·  Apply the knowledge of the parts of speech to understand the English principles needed for successful business communication.

·  Identify and correct a fragment, run-on, and/or comma splice and construct complete sentences.

·  Use dictionaries efficiently to improve vocabulary, word choices, spelling, and pronunciation.

·  Avoid language that suggests bias.

·  Insert commas, end-of-sentence punctuation, and other punctuation marks according to the established principles for business communication.
