NSW Cardiovascular Research Network
A Virtual Institute for Cardiovascular Researchers in NSW
Background
The NSW Cardiovascular Research Network was established in 2005 with the purpose of encouraging improved collaboration and commitment to cardiovascular research in NSW. The network was formed by the Heart Foundation with the support and financial contribution of the NSW Government through the Ministry of Science and Medical Research. It currently comprises 18 core member organisations and their many affiliated hospitals and institutions across NSW. Over 50 lead researchers and clinicians actively participate in the network meetings and projects.
The Network comprises of researchers in the areas of cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and renal disease.
Strategic Direction
Aim
The aim of the CVRN is to increasenew research opportunities for cardiovascular researchers, particularly by acting as the vehicle for new, collaborative research, increasing through leverage the overall state funding of cardiovascular research and building cardiovascular research capacity.
Objectives
The NSW CVRN is currently developing a new Business Plan and one of the major new objectives will be the development and support of early and mid career researchers (ECRs and MCRs) in cardiovascular disease. Our member institutions are acutely aware of the need to foster and support our ECRs and MCRs in these related disease disciplines, particularly in the highly competitive and difficult world of survival through research grants. We have therefore created a unique new interdisciplinary and cross-institutional forum where ECRs and MCRs in cardiovascular, stroke, diabetes and renal disease can meet and develop mutually beneficial collaborations, share information and develop relationships which otherwise may be inaccessible to them.
