Financial Analysis
Prerequisites
Graduate standing.
Description
The development of an understanding of financial theory that will assist management’s evaluation of the firm’s investment, financing, and dividend policies relative to the objective of maximizing shareholder wealth and to familiarize the student with analytical tools that assist in financial decision making.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Compute and discuss the basic principles of risk and return concepts from the perspective of an individual asset and a portfolio.
- Analyze an investment proposal within a capital-budgeting framework.
- Describe debt and equity as sources of long-term funding,
- Determine the impact of using debt and equity when determining the capital structure of a firm.
- Compute a firm’s cost of capitaland discuss its use in financial analysis.
- Compute and discuss the basic ratios in financial-statement analysis.
- Understand the basics of financial forecasting
Purpose
To provide a survey of financial analysis needed in the MSM program.
