SABOT SAILING
SIMPLIFIED
By Murray McLachlan
A handbook for those new to Sabot sailing or for those Sabot racers keen to hone their skills….
SABOT SAILING SIMPLIFIED is just that: a handbook written to simplify the complexities terminologies that the first time ( more seasoned) Sabot sailor & their parents, may experience.
Part 1 of the book explains a little of the history of the Sabot; the boat itself; what to look for if you are planning to buy one; how to rig & launch; sailing basics as they apply to the Sabot (how to tie knots, sail trim, points of sailing, Skipper Crew roles etc); how to tack gybe; what to do if you capsize basic rules.
Part 2 is written more for the Sabot Racer. Both the first-time racer those with years of Sabot racing experience will benefit from the material covered. Again in a simplified approach, the book looks at the importance of pre-race preparation (correct rig, course, wind tide information, how to detect & benefit from line bias etc); then each critical segment of the race i.e. the Start; the Work; the Reach; the Run the Finish. Part 2 also covers sailing in extreme conditions; how to Roll-tack Roll-gybe when how to execute Penalty turns.
Simple diagrams, explaining each concept have been used extensively, as have many photographs. Also included is a comprehensive Glossary of terms & a list of Clubs sailing Sabots.
