College and Financial Aid Notes:

  • Calhoun FastTrack Academy for those who will need Remedial English or Math coursework (for students going to Calhoun Fall 2016). After the course, students can attend a placement test with potential to place them in 100-level courses. Space is limited: Register at
  • UAH College of Nursing offers the Early Promotion to the Nursing Program (EPNP) for High School grads with a 3.5 and ACT of 28 or higher. Nursing majors with this criteria are granted a slot in the nursing program immediately, given they maintain the GPA. Open house for the College of Nursing April 5, 2016. Register at
  • Calhoun Senior Day is Tuesday, April 19. Topics will include FAFSA, College Applications, Admissions and Advising, Placement Testing, Department and Campus Tours, and “Major Decisions” (Advice on choosing a major). Students planning to attend Calhoun should attend Senior Day and will be excused for the day (Students provide their own transportation). Students must bring back proof of attendance and a parent note for the day to be excused. More information about the day’s events will be provided.
  • Everyone should be done with college applications and with the FAFSA. If not, do so immediately (see previous handouts). Follow up on your FAFSA by contacting your college’s Financial Aid office and ask for the status of your FAFSA.
  • If you forget your FSA ID username or password CALL FAFSA 1-800-433-3243
  • Use stars.troy.edu to create a transfer course contract if you will be transferring from one college to another (2 year to 4 year, 2 year to 2 year, etc). This creates a course list to assure that the courses you take at the 2-year College will transfer toward your degree in the 4-year college. (Example Calhoun credits transferring to UAH after 2 years)

SENIOR/ LCHS NOTES:

  • Senior class picture Tuesday April 5th at 8am. DRESS UP. This is for yearbook and Decatur Daily.
  • Awards Day Forms will be available in your English class April 25. List all scholarships you are offered and the amounts of each so we can recognize your accomplishments at Awards Day. Turn your Awards Day Form in toMartin by May 9. Awards Day is May 16 @ 10am.
  • May 23: Graduation 7pm! Dress code for graduation: Girls: white dress, white, silver, or nude dress shoes. Guys: white button down shirt with tie, khaki or black pants, dress shoes.Let us know NOW if you need help with this. Do not wait until Graduation week.
  • Take care of payment for honor stoles, cords, and/or cum laude medals if it applies to you.
  • Students who owe fees or books to LCHS or LCCT will NOT be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.
  • At Graduation practice (May 23 9am-noon), we will listwhere final transcripts need to be mailed (will mail to colleges on June 1).
  • You will receive 4 admission tickets for your graduation guests to sit field-level. All other guests are stadium seating.
