Explanatory notes
1Kīngatanga hui for the purpose of this unit standard refers to koroneihana and poukai.
Poukai round refers to when, in the annual poukai calendar, a marae will host a poukai hui.
Te Paki o Matariki refers to the coat of arms (and official standard) of the Kīngitanga.

Evidence requirements
1.1Koroneihana hui is described in terms of the coronation of a new sovereign and succession planning for the Kīngitanga.
1.2Koroneihana hui is described in terms of the significance of te Paki o Matariki.
1.3Koroneihana hui is described in terms of its rituals.
Rangemay include but are not limited to – ngā kawe mate, political discussions, ngā whaikōrero, ngā karanga, flag ceremony, karakia;
evidence of two is required.
1.4Koroneihana hui is described in terms of the activities.
Rangemay include but are not limited to – kapa haka, sports, hoe waka, presentations, historical kōrero, site visits;
evidence of two is required.
Outcome 2
Describe a poukai hui.
2.1Poukai hui is described in terms of its origins.
2.2Poukai hui is described in terms of its history on a selected marae.
Rangedate of first poukai, authorising sovereign, poukai round.
2.3Poukai hui is described in terms of its rituals.
Rangemay include but are not limited to – flag ceremony, political discussions, kawe mate, tākoha, ngā whakaaro kai;
evidence of three is required.
