Humboldt City Council Meeting Minutes

The Humboldt City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Humboldt City Hall. Mayor Ritchy Griepp called the meeting to order at 7:06pm with the following members present for roll call: Theresa Muth, Allen Schmeichel, Adam Lund and Matthew Sieverding. Amanda Siemonsma and Daryl Sieverding were present for city personnel. Others present were Dallas Peskey and Jason Oaks.

The minutes for the regular meeting from May 20, 2014 were changed stating Matt Sieverding abstained from voting on the city utility manager. A motion by Sieverding and second by Griepp to approve the minutes carried with all members voting aye.

Short discussions were held on the Q125 celebration and the orange cones by the ball field. Copies of the Q125 ad can be picked up at City Hall and there is limited parking by the rear entrance to the ball fields.

In business discussion, there will be orange flags put onto the speed limit signs on Ford Street to raise extra awareness of the speed change.

With all the recent rainfalls, water is draining onto 5th Ave from 6th Ave. There will be an open meeting for the discussion of trenching in PVC pipe to eliminate this problem. The meeting will be held during the July 14th regular Town Board meeting. Residents are reminded to take their sump pump hoses out of the city sewage system.

Patrick Glover with Meierhenry Sargent LLP was appointed the city attorney on a motion by Griepp and a second by Schmeichel. The motion carried.

Department Reports:

Sheriff – 42.85 hours were logged for the city for the month of May.

Utility Manager – Reminder to residents, please upkeep your property. Abandoned vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense and the property maintenance will be done by the city if need be. All notices will be given to the residents prior to city involvement according to South Dakota Codified Law. The city ordinances can be viewed at City Hall.

Mosquito spraying will begin shortly. With all the recent rainfall, be aware, mosquitos breed in standing water.

Finance Officer – Yearly audit will begin June 23rd.

A motion was made by Muth to approve all claims in the amount of $29,167.96. The motion was seconded by Schmeichel and carried with 4 members voting aye and 1 abstaining.
