Safety Requirements for Assisted-Rescue and Self-Rescue Systems, Subsystems and Components
1.3 Exceptions: do not address the construction industry.
1.3.2 Competent person shall determine suitability of equipment in hazardous atmospheres
3.1.1 Rescue system shall be used only with approved anchorage.
3.1.2 Capacity for one person 130-310, two people 130-620 lbs.
3.2.5.3 Powered Operation: Device with a power source shall have a means to limit applied lifting force and speed.
3.2.7.2 Descent Speed: The descent speed for automatic descent control devices shall not be greater than 6.6 feet/second
3.2.7.6.1.1 Synthetic Rope: 3,000lb. Breaking strength
3.2.7.6.1.2 Webbing: 3,000lb. Breaking strength
3.2.7.6.1.3 Wire Rope: 3,000lb. Breaking strength
3.2.8.1 Personnel Hoists: capacity of 310 lbs. for one, 620 lbs. for two.
Hoists shall be equipped by the manufacturer with a secondary brake.
Breaking strength: rope, webbing 4500lbs., wire rope 3400lbs.
7.1 Equipment Selection: Prior to selecting equipment for Assisted-Rescue or Self-Rescue Systems, the rescuer shall make an assessment of workplace conditions where the equipment is required.
7.1.2 Suitable anchorages shall be specified
7.3.2 Training shall be provided in the selection of rescue equipment.
7.3.3 Training shall be provided in proper use of the equipment and include.
How to use, proper methods of donning, attachment locations, intended function, attachment methods, what to do after a fall to protect a worker from injury, emergency rescue planning and execution to include:
Methods of rescue, rescue personnel available, type of equipment available, training of rescue personnel, rescuer safety as the first priority.
7.3.8 Periodic assessment of the effectiveness of rescuer training shall be conducted annually by a competent person.
7.3.9 The rescuer’s organization should maintain records of training on this equipment.
Records should include students name, date of training, the name of the Competent Person who acted as the Instructor, training topics presented and the results of the training.
