WOODDALE HIGH SCHOOL – FAMILY ENGAGEMENT PLAN

2015-2016

The Family Engagement Plan of Wooddale High School is a collaborative effort that was developed jointly among stakeholders to establish expectations for parental involvement. The engagement plan is an outline for parents/guardians to use in an effort to provide their children with a home, school, and community environment that is centered on academic achievement, social growth, and career skills needed to succeed in an ever changing global society.

Title I School Wide Program

Wooddale High School pledges to provide positive collaboration between home and school through the continuous efforts of our faculty, staff, and administration. According to Title I, these guidelines are set forth to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Organizing and inviting parents/guardians to attend Annual Meetings that will inform them of the school’s Title I requirements and the school’s participation in Title I programs
  • Providing assistance to parents/guardians by sharing Shelby County Schools’ Parents Rights to Know
  • Ensuring that parents/guardians are informed of their right to be involved
  • Providing a flexible number of meetings – mornings or evenings – that are structured and support the parents/guardians request
  • Extending an invitation for parents/guardians to be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in planning, reviewing, and improving the school’s parental involvement policy and joint development of the schoolwide program plan (TSIPP)
  • Offering parents/guardians opportunities for regular meetings where suggestions, decision-making, and responses can be shared as it relates to their children
  • Giving parents/guardians timely information about parent programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
  • Providing parents/guardians with a description and explanation of the curriculum the school uses as well as the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress including the state and district proficiency levels students are expected to meet
  • Ensuring that parents/guardians are notified of the policies in an understandable and uniformed format and in a format/language that they can understand
  • Offering parental trainings and workshops to improve parenting skills in coordination with other parental involvement strategies
  • Provide other reasonable support for parent involvement activities per parent request
  • Providing opportunities for parents/guardians to jointly develop , with the staff and other parents/guardians of Wooddale, the school-parent compact

Other Opportunities for Parent/Guardian Involvement

In order to maintain continuous involvement and support of parents/guardians, Wooddale High School has opportunities for parents/guardians to actively engage in the development of our students. Parents/Guardians may participate in the following organizations and activities throughout the school year:

  • Leadership Council
  • Site Based Development Committee
  • Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
  • Booster Club (athletics, band, choir)
  • TSIPP Leadership Committee
  • School and district surveys
  • The use of a multi-functional parent resource center
  • Advisory committees for school clubs and optional school programs

Parents/Guardians may also stay involved through technology by visiting the school’s website as well as receiving monthly calendars and school newsletters and other written communications.
