This post is available from as soon as possible until 3rd February 2015. The postholder will work under the supervision of the nominated consultants in cardiology and general medicine and will be responsible for supervising the clinical work of both FY1 and FY2 trainees. They will participate in all aspects of cardiac management, and experience in specialist aspects of cardiac management such as outpatient clinics, in-patient care and specialty ward consultations.
The hours of duty of this post are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. However dependent on experience there is a possibility of participation in an out of hour Medical Receiving Rota
This post holds educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will be a Locum Appointment for Training or Clinical Fellow dependent on experience. If appointed as a Clinical Fellow the post will not be recognised for training.
To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a license to practice.

The Acute Division of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde is the largest group of adult acute hospitals in Scotland - offering many opportunities to ensure job satisfaction and career development. - General Remarks
Tenure of the above post is offered for 6 months, (03 August 2014 – 04 February 2015). A broad training in Cardiology is offered and there are excellent opportunities for research in clinical or basic science.
- Description of the Hospital and the Post
Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) is one of the major teaching complexes of the University of Glasgow. It provides the acute care services for the North East district of Glasgow and has acute in-patient beds in cardiology medicine, medicine for the elderly, general surgery, vascular and renal medicine. There are also beds in intensive care, high dependency, and acute downstream care beds. The GRI provides a busy non invasive cardiology service to the. Cardiac Intervention and surgery is provided at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.
Cardiology emergencies are admitted through an Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) or through Accident & Emergency (ED) to either Wd 44 an 8 bedded Coronary Care Unit with 6 intermediate care beds and Wd 43 dedicated 40 bed acute receiving and general cardiology ward.
Acute Medical emergencies are admitted to the Acute Medical Unit, the consultant cardiologist of the week also provides a consult service to patients needing review in the AMU.
Pacing Service
We now implant approximately 120 Brady pacemakers and reveal devices per annum. The service is consultant led with support from physiologists. Patients are therefore followed up locally at the Western Infirmary. The consultants provide training in pacemaker implantation to cardiology trainees
Cardiac Rehabilitation and Nurse Led Heart Failure
We offer cardiac rehabilitation and heart failure services to all patients with a step change in their cardiac condition, with a full compliment of multi-disciplinary staff.
Out Patient Services
Full range of cardiology out-patient services including Rapid Access Chest Pain are provided at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill ACH
ECG Services
A full range of cardiac diagnostic tests are provide both at GRI and Stobhill ECG to include Echocardiography, ETT, Direct Access Palpitations and Tilt Testing.
GRI is justifiably proud of the close inter departmental links and co-operation. It is at the forefront of a progressive agenda in relation to clinical standards, managed clinical networks and patient focused service re-design. There are close clinical links with colleagues in the Community Health Care Partnership and other hospitals in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, GoldenJubileeNationalHospital, Glasgow, Strathclyde and GlasgowCaledonianUniversities. There is a dedicated hospital wide academic programme supported by a strong service educational commitment. The hospital is well provided with a dedicated education centre and IT support. The GRI cardiology service has an excellent reputation in supporting and nurturing its clinical staff and also has an excellent reputation for under and post graduate training.

The Cardiology Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary has 2 inpatient wards (ward 43A, and ward 43B) and a Coronary Care Unit (Ward 44). The Consultant Cardiologists provide integrated outpatient, inpatient and daycase cardiology service.
3.Duties of the Post
The postholder will work under the supervision of the nominated consultants in cardiology and general medicine and will be responsible for supervising the clinical work of both FY1 and FY2 trainees.
The postholder will participate in all aspects of cardiac management, and experience in specialist aspects of cardiac management such as outpatient clinics, in-patient care and specialty ward consultations.
The hours of duty of this post are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. However dependent on experience there is a possibility of participation in an out of hour Medical Receiving Rota, for which an appropriate banding supplement will be payable.
Facilities are available for participating in on-going research work.
4.Study and Training
Study leave within the United Kingdom will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of service. For overseas study leave, application is made to the Divisions Clinical Director or Associate Medical Director.
An excellent and comprehensive medical library is sited in the hospital and includes a CD-ROM based reference search system. The postholder will be encouraged to attend and participate in the various post-graduate educational forums in the West of Scotland, the Infirmary itself and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
The trainee will be encouraged to participate in the teaching of medical, nursing and other health care professionals within the unit. In addition a contribution to undergraduate teaching of medical students from the University of Glasgow will be expected.
There is strong tradition within the unit of clinical and basic scientific research. Opportunities will be available to participate in the ongoing research programmes.
Participation in audit within the unit is strongly encouraged.

The post is based at within the Cardiology Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The conditions of service are those laid down and amended from time to time by the Hospital and Medical & Dental Whitley Council.
TYPE OF CONTRACT / Fixed TermGRADE AND SALARY / StR LAT/Clinical Fellow
- If appointed as an StR (Locum Appointment for Training) the salary range will be: £30,302 to £47,647 per annum (pro rata)
- If appointed as a Clinical Fellow the salary range will be: £30,302 to £40,090 per annum (pro rata)
New Entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the minimum point of the salary scale, (dependent on qualifications and experience). Salary is paid monthly by Bank Credit Transfer.
HOURS OF DUTY / Full Time40.00
SUPERANNUATION / New entrants to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who are aged sixteen but under seventy five will be enrolled automatically into membership of the NHS Pension Scheme. Should you choose to "opt out" arrangements can be made to do this via:
