PHYSICS TUTORIAL SCHEDULE:

NOTE: OTHER TIMES CAN BE SCHEDULED; CHECK WITH YOUR TEACHER

COURSE DESCRIPTION: In IPC, students will conduct laboratory and field investigations that have practical applications in today’s world. Topics of study will include laws of motion; changes within physical systems and conservation of energy and momentum; force; characteristics and behavior of waves, properties of matter, and chemical reactions. This course provides students with a conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical and scientific skills.

ü  The grading period is defined as each 3 week segment in the year.

ü  No single grade can count more than 20%.

ü  The teacher has the discretion to drop grades as long as minimums above are maintained.

Student Progress 1. Parents/guardians will receive a report card every quarterly grading period.

2. Parents/guardians will receive an interim progress report (IPR) at the 3-weeks grading period.

3. Students will use TxConnect & submit a copy of their grades to the teacher during each grading period.

4. Students that are not making satisfactory progress may contact their parents/guardians by phone or email during the class period.

Make-up work policy: 1. The student is responsible for all make-up work.

2. The student will schedule time before or after school to complete make-up work.

3. Make-up work is expected with-in 5 days, following your return to class, unless other arrangements are made with the teacher’s approval.

4. Students should turn in all assignments due on the day they were absent, the next day they return to class.

5. Students are not exempt from a test or an assignment because they were absent.

Redo/Retest Policy 1. Students may retest or redo any major assignment if their grade is below a 70%.

2. The retest will be different from the original test & a 70 is the maximum a student can score.

3. Before the student takes the retest they should:

ü  Correct original test.

ü  Come to tutorials for reteaching.

ü  Complete all assignments that have not turned in or finished.

ü  Schedule the Retest during tutorials within 3 school days of the original test.

4.  Most labs, quizzes, & assignments scoring less than a 70% can be improved for a better grade.

Late Work Policy All students will be afforded the opportunity to submit late work for Major Grades.

ü  Late work is defined as work that was assigned to the student and was not completed by the due date and the student does not have a good reason for it being postponed. (If student has a good reason the due date will be extended.)

ü  The teacher will determine the worthiness of the late assignment submitted. The assignment should be complete.

ü  Late work submitted will receive a grade that is no higher than a 70 if the work is complete.

ü  Late work must be submitted before the test/assessment given for the concepts assigned.

Remember Attitude Determines Altitude Student Behavior

1. PISD Laboratory Safety Rules will be strictly enforced at all times. (Students will be given a copy of these rules and they will have to pass a Safety test before they may begin lab activities.)

2. Rules & guidelines found in PfISD Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct will be enforced in this science classroom. (this document is located at the HHS website).

3. Students should also be respectful, responsible, & highly engaged in IPC during the class period.

4. Students are in control of their attitude & effort in IPC class

Required Materials: Textbook: Integrated Physics + Chemistry (McGraw-Hill)

*Students will have access to the textbook in class and on-line access.
